Founded in 2011, Transitions Foundation works to improve the performance of young people across the spectrum of educational needs. We recognise that young South Africans face a myriad of challenges as they try to transition their way through school and our aim is to facilitate these transitions by helping them overcome the obstacles that lie between hardship and happiness. Through our Saturday school programmes, we provide tutoring and mentoring, master classes with some of the country’s most talented young people, as well as leadership and workplace skills development to help our country’s youth make the transition

Transitions Foundation seeks to appoint  a Managing Director to be based in the Johannesburg area.

It involves programme development and management,  staff management, determining students’ needs and interests, overseeing operations, and building relationships with the community and school. The MD possesses strong leadership capabilities, is highly self-motivated, driven, hard-working, passionate about young people and social impact, and is an all-round team player. This role could potentially be filled by someone who holds another job in a related field (e.g. teaching, non-profit management, etc) and is able to commit 25% of their time to managing the operations of Transitions Foundation. Responsibilities will include running the Saturday school programme and the successful candidate will be required to be onsite supporting and overseeing the running of the programme when in session.

Responsibilities:
Day-to-day operations of the Foundation
Supervise the Saturday school programme (onsite/online)
Work with the program staff to develop an appropriate curriculum and plan activities that are consistent with the mission of the programme
Manage the evaluation and assessment procedures for the programme, both program and individual students and provide progress reports to parents, schools, and funders
Supervision, recruitment, hiring, and training of all programme staff and volunteers (tutors, head-tutor, coordinator, and mentors)
Build relationships with school, parents, and community groups to spread the world about the programme and build support for it.
Fundraising and donor relations
Managing the organisation’s finances and budget
Leading the organisation’s strategic vision and planning
Producing Newsletters and Blogs, and maintain social media accounts
