Job Description
The Operations Manager will have overall responsibility for equipment processing activities for the Plant/s under his/her control. The incumbent is responsible to develop and manage relationships with all 3rd party service providers as well as customers where onsite activities occur within their area of responsibility.
The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring that all Company policies and procedures (ie SLA’s and SOP’s) are adhered to and implemented by all staff and 3rd party contractors situated in his/her area of responsibility.
- Production planning
- Setting and achieving daily production targets
- Responsible for sawn timber
- Improve recovery
- Continuous improving / Upgrades
- Supervision of all wet mill staff -100 staff
- Manage night shift
- Quality control
- Discipline employees where required, and chair hearings
- Insuring that health & safety procedures are carried out
- Ensure protective clothing & equipment is worn at all times
- Conducting Toolbox talks and SWP
- Training
- Log procurement & quality of material from suppliers
- Sort out any issues regarding suppliers and materials
- Manage log and timber Stocks
- Manage saw shop and blades – 4 staff
- Housekeeping of sawmill
- Daily breakdowns and reduce downtime
- Preventative maintenance on machinery

- Purchasing decisions/recommend and authorise as per Brambles authority limits.
- Staff recruitment, discipline and termination.
- Day to Day planning of operational functions.
- Customer requirement liaison.
- Deals with the customers’ quality complaints and decide and recommends remedies ensure implements action plans.
- Dealing with log suppliers
- Working autonomously and having limited direct access to immediate manager
- Long hours due to extended plant operating hours/shifts also 24/7 operations

B-Tech Degree
Six Sigma Green Belt Certified
10 Years Production Management experience in a unionized environment
- Results driven
- Sound business and commercial acumen.
- Computer literacy (SAP, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Assertive with good communication, organisational and negotiation skills.
- Sound people management with extensive knowledge of Industrial Relations.
- Good knowledge of OSHACT Safety legislation and procedures is essential.
Preferred Education
Diploma – Electrical Engineering, Diploma – Operations Management
Preferred Level of Work Experience
7 – 10 years
