Job Description:

Responsibilities:

Analyse and manage risk management issues by identifying enterprise risks for the University, communicate and develop finance policies and processes and coordinate the internal and external audit functions and investigations.

Assist the Director, Risk and Insurance to:

  • Manage and implement risk management policies and procedures, ensuring that these are monitored and updated regularly having considered legislative and regulatory updates
  • Perform risk assessments: analysing current risks and identifying potential risks
  • Document and ensure communication of risks
  • Establish the level of risk the University is willing to take
  • Maintain the input or data quality of the risk management system
  • Gather and interpret risk related data from internal and external sources
  • Produce reports or presentations that outline findings and explain risk positions tailored to relevant audiences
  • Provide support and training to embed a culture where risk and assurance is the norm and where staff take ownership and are accountable for regularly monitoring their risks and developing internal controls
  • Support Business Continuity by managing business continuity plans and ensuring that plans are current and periodically tested
  • Regularly review and update financial policies for adequacy and compliance, while considering legislative and regulatory updates.
  • Coordinate, track and manage internal audit and the assurance plan. Liaise with internal and external auditors and UJ management to ensure audit recommendations are implemented and evaluated for effectiveness
  • Work jointly with internal audit to develop and update the internal audit tracking system, follow up on all findings raised and provide assurance that recommended controls are fully implemented within the agreed target dates
  • Assist with ad hoc investigations of irregularities or non-compliance to policies, procedures and standards
  • Manage and implement a Fraud Risk Management strategy by performing fraud risk assessments and maintaining the UJ fraud risk register
  • BCom Finance or Accounting
  • Post-grad qualification in Financial Management field
  • Management Development Program or equivalent management qualification
  • Registered Risk Practitioner with IRMSA
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • At least 5 years’ experience in Risk management
  • At least 2 years’ experience in managing people
  • At least 3 years’ experience in working with electronic financial systems
  • At least 2 years’ experience in working in high conflict situations
