Job Purpose

  • To provide Commercial Banking knowledge and ensuring the integration , adoption and application of the commercial banking strategy and related toolbox(es) that will aggressively grow the client base in country(i.e acquisition through ecosystem).

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Develop strategies and tactics to grow market share by identifying opportunities to acquire customers in high potential sectors in collaboration with internal business partners.
  • Ensure the attainment of all Growth, Value and Advantage objectives for Commercial banking –  as reflected in Market share growth, Attainment of sales targets and Balance sheet and income statement objectives.
  • Provides a regular 2nd face to top clients in Commercial Banking, ensuring that the full extent of their relationships with the Group is understood and managed appropriately.
  • Sets, monitors and manages (in collaboration with internal business partners) the delivery of service level agreements, standards and turnaround times within Commercial Banking in line with value proposition and retention requirements.
  • Perform a proactive liaison role between high-level stakeholders in Credit, Service Fulfilment and Branch Management etc to ensure that simpler, better and faster service standards are met.
  • Leverage sales growth tactics and targets through ecosystem in collaboration with business partners e.g. Credit, VAF, TPS, Global Markets, CIB, Private banking. etc.
  • Develop and implement sales and marketing best practices in support of the Commercial Banking value proposition and customer expectations.
  • Implement processes to monitor portfolio capacity and to manage the best fit between AE and portfolio.
  • Provide guidance, promote, sell and structure a wide and diverse range of financial solutions customised to best meet the financial needs of high value commercial customers.
  • Identify opportunities to migrate clients between  segments
  • Facilitate a sound working partnership between Credit and the Commercial Banking to stimulate business growth without compromising risk and the quality of lending.
  • Conduct regular discussions with Credit Managers to ensure process efficiency and quick turnaround.
  •  Arbitrate credit decisions on behalf of all portfolios in Commercial Banking. This involves facilitating negotiation between Relationship Managers and Credit Division.
  • Manage the timeous completion of annual credit reviews for the Centre.
  • Support the Relationship Managers in structuring/ customising credit loan facility options and parameters for credit approval
  • Remains accountable with Head Product for development of Commercia Banking related solutions
  • Ensure right product mix to manage concentration risk
  • Take the lead by framing the Commercial Banking strategic context and priorities and inspiring people to take action. Explains and embodies the experience that the Commercial Banking proposition has to offer customers and employees. 
  • Manage staff to ensure that targets, work and quality standards are set, achieved and maintained.
  • Track and manage the performance contribution of staff. 
  • Identify strengths and development areas and ensuring that support staff receives the requisite learning and skills development interventions.
  • Perform a strong coaching role and providing support to the Sales staff within Commercial Banking. 
  • Champion talent management in Commercial Banking by creating and implementing a platform for growth, mentoring and development
  • Interact frequently and closely with Relationship Managers to analyse and establish portfolio needs and service Gaps
  • Formulate, drive, measure and manage the implementation of a sales performance strategy for Commercial Banking to grow new business and share of wallet across the portfolios managed
  • Prepare financial budgets/ forecasts in line with strategic objectives, business/ operational risk, socio-political and economic market forces, implement
  • Control the pricing tactics and parameters in line with pricing policy and financial targets, measure, track and manage sales targets and budgets for the Centre (Suite). 
  • Execute data literacy initiative 
  • Maintain and remediation of critical data issues relating to customer static data 
  • Ensures correct documentation and reporting data

Preferred Qualification and Experience

  • Degree in Finance/Economics/Chartered Accountant or related discipline 
  • Minimum 5-7 years Banking experience
  • Solid understanding of existing solutions and processes.
  • Experience in successfully growing the customer base, managing and growing a balance sheet and income statement.
  • In-depth knowledge of key commercial banking sectors and its related products, systems and processes.
  • Proficient in the design and understanding of data management, analytics and business intelligence.
  • Understands the digital landscape and digitisation strategies that enable an enable an enhanced customer experience.
  • Experience in preparing and motivating credit applications is essential for arbitration purposes

Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise

  • Knowledge of the Code of Banking Practice.
  • General knowledge of products offered by the bank.
  • Knowledge of the functions performed by the Relationship Banking
