Job Purpose

  • To provide Agriculture Banking knowledge and ensuring the integration, adoption and application of the Agriculture banking strategy and related toolbox(es) that will aggressively grow the client base in country (i.e acquisition through ecosystem).

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Develop strategies and tactics to grow market share by identifying opportunities to acquire customers in collaboration with internal business partners.
  • Ensure the attainment of all Growth, Value and Advantage objectives for Agriculture Banking Sector – as reflected in Market share growth, Attainment of sales targets and Balance sheet and income statement objectives.      
  • Co-ordinate and implement policy directives and strategies of the agricultural central office in the country.
  • Overall responsibility for merchandising in the districts.           
  • Enhance the bank’s image and profile by representing the bank at important functions and events, e.g Farmers Days, study groups.
  • Conduct a needs analysis to identify customer needs effectively when opening new accounts or giving product advice.
  • Complete disclosure to the customers in terms of accreditation, service fees, and commission.
  • Ensure proper record keeping in terms of Bank policy as well as the Bank Act requirements
  • • Ensure that all aspects of credit policy are adhered to and the desired standards with respect to accuracy and timely reporting are achieved.
    • Ensure timeous, consistent updating of productive valuation tables, sanctioning by the Africa Regions and successful implementation in the country.
    • Selective involvement in business development through comprehensive agricultural reports and viability studies in support of applications for new and increased facilities.
    • Encourage others to comply with legal, risk management and credit- related obligations.
    • Conduct viability studies to formulate action plans to regularise the business or exit with limited bad debt.
    • Conduct property valuations in order to calculate the maximum support price.
    • Reconsider credit applications in conjunction with the Agricultural Advisor and draft letters of motivation
  • • Take the lead by framing the Private Banking strategic context and priorities and inspiring people to take action.
    • Explains and embodies the experience that the Agriculture proposition has to offer customers and employees.
    • Manage staff to ensure that targets, work and quality standards are set, achieved and maintained.
    • Track and manage the performance contribution of staff.
    • Identify strengths and development areas and ensuring that support staff receives the requisite learning and skills development interventions.
    • Perform a strong coaching role and providing support to the Sales staff within Private Banking.
    • Champion talent management in Private Banking by creating and implementing a platform for growth, mentoring and development. Implement Transformation Initiative (Diversification)
  • Grow the asset/liability base pertaining to agricultural market share in an innovative manner. Manage a dynamic sales force in a coordinated manner to achieve sales targets. 
  • Track sales vigorously. 
  • Negotiate and agree micro market profit targets.
  • Implement the agreed Agricultural Financial outcomes and ensure remedial actions are defined and implemented
  • Remains accountable with Head Product for development of Agriculture related solutions
  • Ensure right product mix to manage concentration risk
  • Execute data literacy initiative 
  • Maintain and remediation of critical data issues relating to customer static data 
  • Ensures correct documentation and reporting data

Implement the agreed Agricultural Financial outcomes and ensure remedial actions are defined and implemented

Preferred Qualification and Experience

  • Degree in Agriculture or Business Commerce , or related field
  • 5-7 years general banking experience
  • Agriculture Banking expertise, solid understanding of existing solutions and processes.
  • Experience in successfully growing the customer base, managing and growing a balance sheet and income statement.
  • In-depth knowledge of key Agriculture banking solutions, systems and processes.

Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise

  • Knowledge of the Code of Banking Practice.
  • General knowledge of products offered by the bank.
  • Knowledge of the functions performed by the Relationship Banking
  • Developing Strategies.
  • Generating Ideas
  • Proficient in the design and understanding of data management, analytics and business intelligence.
  • Understands the digital landscape and digitisation strategies that enable an enable an enhanced customer experience.
  • Experience in preparing and motivating credit applications is essential for arbitration purposes
