Reporting to the Executive Head of Legal and Compliance, the incumbent shall be responsible to provide the strategic lead and direction on legal matters with regard to litigation and dispute resolution, managing other legal practitioners and has the overall responsibility for the provision and the quality of Legal support for Vodacom Lesotho. 

Job Responsibility

  • Has overall responsibility for the effective delivery of legal support and advice provided to Vodacom Lesotho by both in-house or external lawyers with regard to litigation matters and dispute resolution
  • Recruits, couches, develops and manages a team of in-house lawyers for the purpose of providing legal support and advice to Vodacom Lesotho with regard to the applicable legal framework, litigation matters and other dispute resolution mechanisms.
  • Has overall responsibility for identifying areas of legal risk for Vodacom Lesotho and provides solution to manage the risks.
  • Provides advice on how to structure complex and strategically significant litigation and dispute resolution processes and takes responsibility for the tactical direction in the resolution of complex and strategically significant disputes taking into account the commercial background and key legal issues together with input from tax, finance and other appropriate Vodacom functions
  • Leads and manages the development of best practice within Vodacom Lesotho with regards to the drafting of agreements.  
  • Settles terms and conditions (including fee rates) and manages the relationship between Vodacom Lesotho and external counsel

Requirements

  • Degree in Law majoring in corporate/business law subjects, Master of Laws shall be an advantage;
  • Admission as an advocate of the High Court of Lesotho
  • Knowledge and experience with corporate governance issues, public policy making / management and administrative law 
  • 8 years in a legal or regulatory environment with sound and balanced legal judgement and business awareness, with an understanding of the need to pragmatically assess risk
  • At least two years’ experience in management capacity
  • Experience in the telecommunication industry shall be an advantage
