JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Head Clinical Nursing Services, the job incumbent will Plan, manages, organizes, and evaluates the Nursing Services of the programme/hospital assigned.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. MANAGES THE PERFORMANCE OF THE NURSING DIRECTORATE AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL
  2. Oversees the implementation of nursing standards and the evaluation of general nursing performance
  3. Recommends the review of the nursing standards to the nursing Directorate.
  4. Supervises and appraises the performance of the Coordinator Departmental Nursing Services, to ensure the delivery of quality nursing services.
  5. Schedules and convenes staff meetings at various levels, and participates in meetings of medical and other staff, aimed at promoting patient care.
  6. Consolidates the hospital nursing budget and plans.
  7. Collaborates with relevant Non-Governmental Organisations and Government Ministries for the implementation of key activities relating to nursing.
  • MAINTAINS THE EFFECTIVE AND EFICIENT OPERATIONS OF HOSPITAL NURSING SERVICES
  • Formulates the administrative policies in matters affecting nursing.
  • Participates in the planning and setting/positioning of district health facilities.
  • Develops nursing procedures according to the policies and philosophy of nursing, to maintain high standards of nursing care.
  • Collaborates with other departments in the hospital to facilitate the effective administration of the hospital.
  • ADVICE THE NURSING DIRECTORATE OF THE PERFORMANCE OF THE HOSPITAL
  • Prepares and submits quarterly and annual reports to the Head Clinical Nursing
  • CONTROLS THE SUPPLY OF ADEQUATELY TRAINED AND DEVELOPED HUMAN RESOURCES TO THE NURSING DIRECTORATE
  • Identifies the training needs of the department to develop training plans.
  • Collaborates with the Human Resources Department in the consolidation of training plans from different units within the hospital, to ensure the implementation of the training plans.
  • Coordinates, plans, and implements the in-service education programmes for the development of professional nurses and nursing assistants
  • Allocates Continuous Professional Development points to facilitate nurses’ renewal of their Lesotho Council of Nursing Licenses
  • Interviews nursing personnel for purposes of counselling, appointments, transfers, and termination of services.
  • Advises the Nursing Directorate on the way nursing personnel should be developed and deployed
  • MAINTAINS THE DELIVERY OF ADEQUATE, EFFICIENT AND QUALITY NURSING SERVICES TO PATIENTS
  • Conducts patient satisfaction surveys.
  • Drafts research proposals for conducting research to promote evidence-based nursing care.
  • FACILITATES THE TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT OF NURSING STAFF
  • Liaises with nurses’ training institutions to facilitate the admission of junior nursing personnel.
  • Collaborates with nurses training institutions for the facilitation of quality clinical nursing practice for student nurses at the hospital.
  • Researches and recommends to the Nursing Directorate which national and international professional bodies may enhance professional growth of nursing.

JOB SPECIFICATION

Master’s degree in nursing plus Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery and three (3) years’ relevant experience in a managerial position.

OR

Degree in Nursing/Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery plus five (5) years’ relevant experience in managerial position.
