Manager, Business Development – Acceptance
Primary Responsibilities

  • Acquirer and Payment Faciliator/Payment Service Provider business development
  • Grow incremental (non secular) acquiring volumes/revenues and acceptance locations/segments/channels (e.g. gateways, contactless, ecommerce acquiring, POS activation, new micro-merchants, cross-border…)
  • Investigate and analyse business opportunities to increase volume and share as well as develop and implement improvements to acquiring operations and processes
  • On-board non-traditional acquirers and take them through the end-to-end licensing processes where new e.g. Yoco, Paycorp, Efficacy Payments, Retail Assist and African Resonance.
  • Responsible for delivering cash displacement opportunities in new segments, such as education and health, leveraging fintech partners

Supporting Responsibilities

  • Develop short term and long-term acceptance/acquiring strategy, set objectives and lead the delivery of initiatives in conjunction with BD, CM and customer under the umbrella of the South Africa 5 Year Strategy
  • Development of specific acceptance business plans through the provision of appropriate market intelligence, data and research (e.g. Genesis cross-border, informal merchant segments, x-border spend analysis…)
  • Project manage acquiring initiatives from concept, contracts through to live implementation, e.g. TOP implementations
  • Work with broader product and commercial teams to expand acceptance use cases across different sectors, form factors and customer touch points.
  • Support the Customer Relationship Manager with acquirer relationships (e.g. own QBR acceptance analysis, status, strategic opportunity direction …)
  • Motivate for needed acceptance funding to support key initiatives / strategic objectives. Own implementation of campaigns and internal compliance.
  • Represent Mastercard at PASA Acquiring Forums (regulatory support) and other like forums / acquiring conferences.
  • Build an understanding of issues touching the acquirer space, particularly standard/compliance/mandates, interchange, mobile, contactless and ecommerce requirements. Guide BD, CM and customers through this and implement.
  • Interpret and assess available MIS to identify opportunities for innovation and revenue growth.
  • Manage acceptance product / solution sales and growth, e.g. DCC
  • Own acquiring portfolio across South Africa and affiliated countries “linked to SA” (Lesotho, Swaziland, Botswana and Namibia). Own and resolve issues e.g. licensing sub-region resolution, propose pricing …
  • Grow acquiring revenue through partnerships with high XB volume merchants and conclude partnerships (e.g. deliver on corridor merchants to support SAEM issuance, x-border spend and tourism hotspots..)
  • Own all acceptance / acquiring training interventions e.g. rules, best practice workshops, fraud prevention …
