Job Purpose

To ensure optimal balance sheet shape, mix and portfolio tilt, thereby maximizing shareholder value within acceptable risk appetite, through strategic balance sheet management and monitoring of liquidity risk, capital management and market risk (interest rate risk and foreign exchange risk).

Job Responsibilities

  • Development of financial models for overall scenario testing.
  • Provide financial insights to ALCO and Board.
  • Evaluate capital efficiency levels and drive capital allocation and optimistaion.
  • Assist in the achievement of Business as Usual (BAU) and strategic initiatives through accurate budgeting and forecasting.
  • Build and maintain collaborative business relationships and understand the business strategy and operations through ongoing engagement with stakeholders.
  • Champion Funds Transfer Pricing.
  • Formulate and execute liquidity and market risk management strategies.
  • Measure, monitor, review and report NOP, counterparty, Dealer limits, currency swaps, sale/purchase currencies and nostro balances.
  • Provide ongoing support to stakeholders by addressing ad hoc queries and requests.

Job Responsibilities Continue

  • Assess the effectiveness of hedging positions taken by Treasury and recommend approriate hedge ratios to mitigate basis risk.
  • Measure, monitor, review, control and report re-pricing gaps and cost of funding. 
  • Simulate sensitivities of the Banking Book to parallel and non-parallel shifts in the yield curve, assess sensitivities, which include stress scenarios against limits and recommend appropriate interest rate risk management strategies.
  • Measure, monitor, review, control and report Bank’s liquidity risk profile. Assess the Bank’s capacity to fund new assets and forecast funding trends. Monitor concentration risk and recommend appropriate strategies to mitigate risk both in the short- and long-term.
  • Design and implement overall balance sheet management strategies in alignment to financial objectives and risk appetite.
  • Manage, coordinate and compile ICAAP, Recovery Plan and Pillar 3 reports while overseeing stress testing of capital, liquidity, IRRBB and operational risk.
  • Contribute to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals by participating in Nedbank Culture building initiatives (e.g., staff surveys etc).
  • Ensure achievement of the ALCO mandate through compilation of the ALCO pack, facilitation of ALCO meetings and compilation of ALCO submissions to Board.
  • Seek opportunities to improve business processes and systems by identifying and recommending effective ways to operate and adding value to Nedbank.

Preferred Qualification

Minimum ACCA/CA or Masters in Economics or advanced relevant qualification
Actuarial science/CFA/PGDip in development finance will be an added advantage

Minimum Experience Level

Proven experience in balance sheet management, treasury or related financial role
Minimum: 7+ years financial services experience.

Experience in banking industry is an added advantage.
Proficiency in financial Modeling is crucial for the role
