The Magistrate is responsible for the overall supervision of the operations of the Punta Gorda Family Court. The Magistrate shall be answerable to and supervised by the Director of Belize Family Court.
Applicant must:
- Be a qualified Solicitor/ Lawyer, or Attorney at law and have been call to the bar in a Commonwealth jurisdiction;
- Be in possession of Bachelor’s in Law (LLB)
- Be in possession of a Certificate in Legal Education (CLE)
- Age Limit 25-49
Analysis of position:
- Preside over the adjudication of legal proceedings in the civil, hybrid and criminal jurisdiction of the Court.
- Issue orders and give directions in all legal proceedings before the Court.
- Sign warrants and other formal court documents required to be signed by the Magistrate.
- Provide oversight in the district courts for the supervision of the Clerk of Court, Intake Welfare Officer, and other Court staff in the fulfilment of aspects of their duties connected to legal proceedings.
- Prepare such written reasons for proceedings before the Court that will be needed to effect appeal of any decision made by the Court.
