To reinforce our Initiative Inclusive Eye Health, we are looking for a Low Vision Advisor.

This is a full-time position to be based in one of our permanent established CBM entities. Local contractual terms of the respective country apply. An expatriation is not intended.

These are your responsibilities

  • Support country planning processes, ensuring synergy with the Inclusive Eye Health initiative plan, and support identification of appropriate low vision related country level objectives and indicators with alignment to CBM and global standards
  • Ensure that Inclusive Eye Health project proposals which are developed include low vision/vision rehabilitation and meet agreed standards of design and quality for them to be presented for funding
  • Analyse policies, trends, data & research in Low Vision in order to influence the external environment and improve and further develop CBM’s policies and practice in the delivery of the overall work in Inclusive Eye Health
  • Train eye health and CBID (including education) professionals in provision of low vision/vision rehabilitation services to clients with low vision and clients with other disabilities and vision problems, using online and face-to-face methods
  • Build the capacity of CBM staff, such as country office staff, IEH programme managers and advisors in
    • key elements of planning, monitoring and evaluation of low vision/vision rehabilitation services
    • in using clear criteria, tools and guidelines to support project design and development
    • and ensure relevant projects receive technical input
  • Train Trainers to enable them to train eye health- , CBID (including education)-, and other professionals, as well as caregivers in the provision of low vision/vision rehabilitation care, in their own country or region
  • Ensure quality assurance of Low Vision programmes in terms of technical requirements, disability inclusion and developmental good practice
  • Develop, scale up and document model programmes that are part of the initiative with good practices to promote replication
  • Contribute to identifying advocacy priorities
  • Support collation and analysis of data gathered
  • Support the research unit in commissioning research in order to inform and further develop CBM’s work in Inclusive Eye Health, with a focus on Low Vision
  • Support the Inclusive Eye Health Director in providing a global picture of CBM’s work and CBM’s added value in Low Vision

These are your qualifications

  • Low Vision MSc or PhD degree
  • Minimum of 5-10 years working experience in a developing country
  • Background and experience in development cooperation, including in applying relevant tools and methods (PCM, participatory approaches etc)
  • Experience in networking, advocacy and influencing with knowledge of key global and continental networks, ideally having played an active part in such networks
  • Strong understanding of disability-inclusive development
  • Knowledge and understanding of key players and stakeholders in Eye Health, with a focus on Low Vision on global and regional levels
  • Experience in working in multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams
  • Experience in operational research
  • Experience in online and face-to-face teaching/ training/ coaching
  • Experience in Developing Low vision programmes
  • English (professional proficiency)
  • French, Spanish (desirable)
  • Good skills in MS Office
  • Ability to travel
  • Identification with the Christian values and mandate of CBM
