PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Accountable for coordinating and integrating the overall mine planning process within the assigned operational area to ensure that all plans (mine and supporting resources), planning processes and designs are optimized, realistic, relevant and precise, and to produce and optimize strategic mine plans.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • B.ENG (Mining Engineering)
  • National Higher Diploma in Mining, or Equivalent as recognised by South African National Qualification Authority- SANQA or similar international qualification
  • Mine Overseer and or manager’s Certificate as issued by the DME or Advanced Planning qualification or a related discipline
  • 10 years’ experience within a mining environment, (preferably in open pit or open cast mining environment)
  • 10 years’ experience in open pit long term and strategic planning environment

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Long term planning and mine design
  • Long term and medium term planning and scheduling
  • Training and overseeing of junior planners and short term planning
  • Advising management on required fleet and consumables
  • Reporting and presenting plans and schedules to mine management
  • Excellent knowledge of information management systems and processes
  • Knowledge of applicable mine standards and health and safety regulations and requirements
  • Knowledge of mine, labour and other required resources planning practices and principles and planning systems/software packages
  • Knowledge of quality management principles and practices
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in mine planning platforms, mine designs and layouts and associated software.
  • In depth knowledge of MRM and economic practices and systems
  • Be able to update and create new Resource and Reserve Model for planning and geology functions
  • Understand the functions and processes and be able to create the 3D pit designs.
  • Understand the mine budget, how to update it and how to capture all relevant information to be used in mine budget.
  • In-depth knowledge of the functions and processes in the Medium to Long term planning in order to deliver a safe,
    competent and attractive plan that can be presented to investors
  • In depth knowledge of the geotechnical principles, objectives and their impact in Mine design.
  • In depth knowledge of load and haul principles including mine infrastructure, dispatch control, optimisation of mining activities and equipment.
  • Technical understanding of equipment capability, drill and blast principles, costing and optimisation of drilling and blasting.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Report writing skills
  • Analytical with attention to detail
  • Experience and extensive/advanced use of mine planning software i.e. Whittle, Datamine, Maptek, AutoCAD, Surpac, Microsoft project, or similar essential
