Overview:

KARABO EA BOPHELO at Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho. The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho (BCMCFL), is the result of a public-private partnership between Baylor College of Medicine International Pediatric AIDS Initiative and the Government of Lesotho, and is a legal, non-profit/tax exempt organization registered in Lesotho. BCMCFL provides free pediatric and family-centred HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care, treatment, and support, serving thousands of children and families affected by HIV, TB, or other child health conditions. Karabo ea Bophelo (KB) is a five-year USAID-funded activity to prevent new HIV infections and reduce vulnerability among orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Lesotho.

BCMCFL is looking for highly qualified local candidates to fill in the following position available under Karabo ea Bophelo Project on a full-time, Fixed-Term Contract basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

Position Overview

The Livelihoods Specialist will report directly to the Senior Education Manager. S/he will be accountable for technical analysis and support in the areas of Economic Strengthening (ES) activities focusing more on complete adaptation, implementation and monitoring of Empowerment and Livelihoods for Adolescents (ELA) model. S/he will provide technical guidance to Implementing Partners (IPs) in line with BCMCFL Karabo ea Bophelo (KB) program quality principles and standards, donor guidelines, and industry best practices to technical and program staff to advance the delivery of high-quality programming to the vulnerable Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW).

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Research and analyses technical information from a variety of sources for technical problems to support the BCMCFL KB project in achieving technical excellence by establishing strategic and innovative relationships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the development of project documents and tools, as well as technical and training materials, quality improvement and assessment guidelines.
  • Prepare presentations and coordinate project communication needs through writing and editing communication resources, such as case studies, brochures, briefs, peer-reviewed articles or reports, for both internal and external audiences.
  • Coordinate and perform various activities in support of project design and implementation, including but not limited to needs assessment, strategic planning, program design and proposal writing, monitoring and evaluation.     
  • Provide technical support and guidance to KB IPs in quality implementation and monitoring of all assigned ES activities as outlined in the work plan. Ensure proper and effective implementation of all KB project activities on ES including implementation and monitoring of ELA group sessions at community level.

Educational Qualifications, Work Experience and Key Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Youth Development, or other related Social Sciences.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant work experience with an international NGO or Private Sector. At least one year of community-based PEPFAR programming experience is desirable.
  • General knowledge of technical principles and concepts in developing strategic, innovative, and effective public-private relationships.
  • Knowledge of program design requirements, proposal development and PEPFAR/USAID policies and regulations.
  • Knowledge of latest technological tools that have the potential to be applied in the engagement of the public-private sectors in humanitarian development work.
  • Strong English writing skills.
  • Good relationship management skills with ability to work collaboratively as part of multidisciplinary and multicultural teams
  • Strategic, analytical, problem-solving and systems thinking capacity and skills
  • Strong data collection and research skills and ability to analyze and interpret data
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding, brokering, and overseeing the development of high-value public-private alliances and partnerships
