LifeLine Ekurhuleni is a leading provider of personal skills development and the promotion of emotional wellness for the healing and transformation of individuals and communities in Ekurhuleni. As a community-based, civil society organisation, whose core counselling and victim empowerment services are provided by volunteers, LifeLine involves the community at large and its resources to achieve its objectives.

LifeLine Ekurhuleni seeks to appoint a Social Worker, based at LifeLine Ekurhuleni in Benoni. The successful applicant is expected to fill this position for an initial period of 7 months – with the possibility of renewal dependent on the availability of funds.

The purpose of the incumbent is to ensure that both mentally-challenged adults and child victims and witnesses of sexual abuse and other violent crimes receive optimal Intermediary and follow-up services from the LifeLine team, as well as knowledge of child protection, gender-based violence and HIV & AIDS-related issues and their impact amongst individuals, families and communities.

Responsibilites:

  • Co-ordinating and monitoring the LifeLine services and team
  • Providing psychosocial support
  • Planning, organising, mobilising for and evaluating community development activities
  • Networking, advocacy and linking with diverse stakeholders
  • General administration

Requirements:

  • A 4-Year Bachelors or Honours Degree in Social Work;
  • Registration with the SACSSP;
  • At least 2 years therapeutic experience, preferably within the NGO sector;
  • Experience in the management of both staff and volunteer teams;
  • Knowledge of VEP and child protection practices and the relevant legislation;
  • A valid Code 8 (EB) driver’s license;
  • Proficiency in the use of computers for spreadsheets, reporting, email and internet;
  • Strong, persuasive written and oral communication, presentation and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines over long periods;
  • Excellent organisational skills, with a thorough attention to detail;
  • A flexible approach to working hours and duties
