VACANCY: LESOTHO COUNTRY DIRECTOR
Gender Links, (GL) a dynamic Southern African NGO based in Johannesburg, promoting gender equality and justice, seeks the services of an experienced, skilled, highly motivated and committed person to fill the Lesotho Country Director position. The post is based in Lesotho.
Roles and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the GL Regional Hub for operations and the Lesotho Board on country specific matters, the Country Director will be required to:
- Represent the Gender Links Lesotho office at meetings, conferences, and events related to grant opportunities and funder relationships.
- Put in place a 5-year Country strategy plan for the Lesotho office and manage its country operations
- Fundraise for Lesotho, Exercise Financial oversight
- Engage with Donors and partner management.
- Ensure that all statutory obligations are met, and that the organisation enjoys a high profile and good reputation.
- Manage the gender justice and local government programme.
- Managing partnerships with local organizations, government and development partners.
- Oversee donor relations and be responsible for fundraising for the Lesotho office
- Manage relationships with Researchers, train data collectors and monitor fieldwork
- Manage the collection of I stories from beneficiaries
- Foster the growth and development of strong LGBTIQ organisations and networks through strategic litigation, linking, learning and programme synergies.
- Oversee grant management including: implementation of the Lesotho grant-funded projects,
- Ensure compliance with all grant requirements; compliance with key policies such as Gender Links’ Safeguarding and Zero tolerance for Corruption policy.
- Facilitate the growth of GL’s media and Alliance programmes, and ensure synergy between all programme work.
Qualifications and Requirements
Requirements:
- The successful candidate must be a Lesotho citizen
- A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
- At least five years of experience in programme management, coordination, or a similar role in the NGO sector.
Experience:
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and event coordination.
- Experience in communications, including social media management and website content updates.
- Experience in project budget and work plan management.
- Track record of working in the LGBTIQ sector in Southern Africa
- Experience with working with EU funded projects will be an advantage.
Skills :
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of gender issues, advocacy, and feminist frameworks is an advantage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including Sesotho.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Pastel knowledge.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
- Strong knowledge of the media, research and training skills.
- Strong knowledge of localities of Lesotho.
- Financial and fund raising skills.
- Excellent networking and inter-personal skills.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.

Conditions :
The contract will be for an initial period of one year. The offer will be subject to three months’ probation. The successful candidate will be based in Lesotho. Having a valid residence or work permit in Lesotho will be an advantage. The successful candidate will be periodically required to travel. GL will offer a highly competitive remuneration package, commensurate with the skills and experience. While GL recognises the use of AI as a tool, applications must be authentic.
