We have an excellent opportunity for a Legal Intern, to work with our Office of Civil and Criminal Justice Reform (OCCJR) team within the Governance and Peace Directorate.

The OCCJR, in collaboration with other relevant Directorate and Sections, focuses on a number of key legal reform areas, including access to justice, anticorruption, climate change, countering violent extremism, economic regulation, electoral regulation, governance, human rights and gender equality, information and communication technology, oceans and natural resources, and trade, business, and commerce. In so far as these relate to work across different Directorates within the Secretariat, the OCCJR plays an important role in coordinating all Secretariat legal reform work.

The successful candidate will assist in undertaking a range of tasks in connection with the Commonwealth Legal Knowledge Exchange Portal (‘the Portal’). The Portal is an online resource comprising key legislation from Commonwealth countries, information on the law-related activities of the Secretariat, and country profile information. The successful candidate will also be expected to assist in various related tasks and programmes assigned by the Head of the OCCJR.

To be considered, you must be between the ages of 20 and 30 years and have been enrolled in, or recently completed, a law degree. You should also have experience in conducting research on legal issues, an understanding of development issues and an ability to research and deliver reports in a timely manner.  Excellent IT skills and the ability to provide administrative assistance are also required.
