Background
Since 2018, the Government of Lesotho (GoL), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has been implementing the Lesotho National Dialogue and Stabilization Project (LNDSP).
A key outcome of this process was the establishment of a legal framework through the National Reforms Authority (NRA) Act, 2019, mandating the NRA to implement national reforms within 12 to 18 months.
Following the end of the NRA’s term in April 2022, the Government established the National Reforms Transitional Office (NRTO) under the Ministry of Law and Justice.
The NRTO:
- Ensures continuity, stability, and sustainability of reforms
- Serves as a repository of institutional memory
- Supports Government and Parliament in reform implementation, including peace architecture
Available Positions
Legal Draftsman
Number of Positions: 1
Primary Purpose
Responsible for drafting Bills and legislative instruments.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research to ensure high‑quality legislative outputs
- Ensure drafting instructions are sufficient and appropriate
- Collaborate with technical working groups and advisors
- Prepare:
- Bills
- Regulations
- Amendments
- Explanatory memoranda
- Ensure all legal documents are constitutionally valid and properly drafted
Job Specification
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with 5 years’ experience
OR - Bachelor of Arts in Law with 8 years’ experience
- Experience in legislative drafting is an added advantage
