JOB PURPOSE

This role will work on the development and implementation of legacy donor fundraising strategies with a keen focus on major donors. The Legacy and Major Donor Officer will collaboratively work within the Partnerships, Advocacy and Communications team to ensure the delivery and achievement of the relationship fundraising (one-to-one) strategy in line with agreed KPIs. This position will also be responsible to build national legacy campaigns across Save the Children’s fundraising channels.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy:
Working with the Head of Partnerships to develop the relationship fundraising strategy to include legacy donors, major donor, event fundraising, and other fundraising activities to deliver high level donations as required.

Delivering:
To oversee the delivery of the relationship fundraising (one-to-one) strategy to achieve agreed KPIs.

Legacy and Major Donor Fundraising:
To set (in conjunction with the Head of Partnerships) and achieve targets for growing the number of legacy pledgers and high net worth individuals known to Save the Children South Africa.
To implement a national legacy strategy that transitions prospects into confirmed legacy pledgers.
To develop positive relationships with confirmed legacy pledgers and major donors through calls, letters, donor engagement activities and personal visits in order to retain pledgers and donors and get them to engage with Save the Children.
To plan and deliver all marketing activities to promote legacy gifts to existing donors and prospects. Marketing activities include, but are not limited to digital, direct mail and telemarketing.
Utilise and maximise existing fundraising channels to promote legacy gifts and major donations to prospects.
To develop all legacy gifts and major donor materials.
To plan and deliver all online marketing and digital engagement campaigns in line with legacy donor strategy.

Event Management:
With the support of the partnerships team coordinate, plan and deliver key donor events in line with the partnership department’s strategy.

Other duties may be included, within reasonable limits, as agreed with your manager.
Specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for your role will be developed annually and reviewed regularly by you and your manager in conjunction with the fundraising plan and organisational needs of SC SA.

QUALIFICATIONS
Educated to Undergraduate Degree level or equivalent.
2 to 3 years’ experience of developing and implementing a legacy strategy, with particular emphasis on marketing activities.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Demonstrable experience of legacy and major donor fundraising/marketing.
Implementation experience of the principles of legacy and major donor fundraising including identification, research, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
Demonstrable experience of influencing others/being able to foster relationships.
Exceptional written communication skills – ability to write a compelling case for support and produce written documents that are inspiring, concise and informative.
Experience in event management that yield financial results.
A high level of computer literacy, including experience of MS Office, and the ability to work with CRM systems.
Experience of using Salesforce to record interactions with prospects and donors and to produce regular progress reports.
The ability to analyse results and make decisions using data.
Ability to work with all social media platforms.
Proven track record of setting and delivering against agreed targets, budgets, and deadlines.
Experience of managing multiple projects and working with internal and external stakeholders to achieve goals.
Previous experience of working in the not-for-profit sector (desirable).
