VACANCY: LECTURER

The Centre for Accounting Studies (CAS) is seeking qualified and dynamic Lecturers to deliver high-quality teaching in Professional Accountancy programmes. The successful candidates will possess strong technical expertise and a passion for students’ success.


JOB PARTICULARS

Title: Lecturer
Answerable to: Academic Planning Manager (APM) / Deputy Rector (matrix to Rector)


MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

• To disseminate technical knowledge and expertise, especially in the Professional Accountancy field, by means of scheduled and client-specific training.
• To prepare, recommend, and review appropriate teaching materials and files.
• To undertake consultancy assignments, prepare and conduct short courses and workshops, and conduct research as required by the APM/Deputy Rector.
• To undertake administrative duties that support teaching, consultancy, and research activities.
• To work collaboratively within academic, technical, and administrative teams.


KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

1. Teaching and Learning

• Prepare materials and maintain class files for scheduled programmes and assigned CAS short courses before each programme begins.
• Deliver lectures and tutorials for assigned subjects; teaching hours shall not exceed 1100 hours per annum (approx. 21 hours per week), with a minimum of 3 subjects.
• Prepare and mark assignments, quarterly tests, and other assessments; submit monthly and quarterly reports to the APM/Deputy Rector.
• Monitor student progress and implement or recommend remedial action.
• Provide class management support as class coordinator when assigned.
• Execute other lecturer responsibilities as required.
• Supervise undergraduate research projects and theses.
• Assist with the development and implementation of new programmes.
• Assist in updating programmes to align with emerging knowledge, developments, and syllabus changes.
• Keep abreast of innovations in subject areas and pedagogy.


2. Consultancy, Short Courses, and Research

• Develop, design, and deliver or facilitate at least two non-scheduled courses.
• Develop, design, and deliver at least one training consultancy per annum, and undertake one research project for publication, presentation, or CAS use, as approved by the APM/Deputy Rector and according to CAS research guidelines.


3. Administrative and General Support

• Maintain regular office hours for student consultation and administrative duties.
• Participate in CAS meetings, committees, task forces, and working groups.
• Represent CAS at external meetings when delegated.


4. Performance Management and Personal Development

• Undertake mentoring and peer review activities and participate in scheduled peer reviews.
• Agree to performance standards and targets each half-year and undergo performance evaluations.
• Undertake approved Professional Self-Development activities.
• Assume leadership roles in relevant academic areas.


5. Other Duties

• Undertake other relevant duties, including serving as subject/module coordinator or Programme Manager/Coordinator as required.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SCHEDULED COURSES

Lecturers must ensure that courses are planned, organised, and delivered to CAS standards. Responsibilities include:

• Preparing a teaching scheme at least three weeks before each semester/programme.
• Depositing the teaching scheme with the library and APM/Deputy Rector at least two weeks before commencement.
• Submitting a complete class file at least one week before commencement.
• Providing students with the teaching scheme on the first day of class.
• Preparing all assignments and test materials in advance.
• Preparing teaching materials (slides, handouts, etc.).
• Ensuring punctuality and full attendance.
• Delivering the full programme of lectures.
• Taking attendance and reporting anomalies.
• Maintaining classroom discipline and escalating issues when necessary.
• Liaising with other lecturers teaching the same subject and with the class coordinator on administrative matters.
• Attending review meetings with the APM/Deputy Rector.
• Making oneself available for student consultations.
• Reviewing professional journals and newsletters for relevant updates.
• Keeping teaching schemes under continuous review.
• Conducting in-depth analysis of examination papers, regulations, and reports.
• Preparing an end-of-course report within two weeks of course completion.


QUALIFICATIONS, ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE

Required:
• Master’s Degree in the relevant fields plus a full Professional Qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, CA, CPA, or any other IFAC/LIA-recognised qualification.
• 3 years’ teaching experience at a tertiary institution and 5 years’ professional experience.
• Must be prepared to work beyond normal working hours and/or weekends when necessary.
