URBAN AND REGIONAL PLANNING
Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
The Department of Geography & Environmental Science is seeking a candidate for the position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in its Bachelor of Urban & Regional Planning Programme. Candidates for the position of Senior Lecturer must possess a PhD in Urban & Regional Planning or related discipline. For the position of Lecturer, a candidate must possess a Master’s degree in Urban & Regional Planning or equivalent.
The successful candidate must demonstrate his/her ability to develop content and deliver lessons in at least four of the following modules (or their equivalents): Research Methods in Urban & Regional Planning; Quantitative Techniques in Planning; Population Geography; Planning Ethics; Legal Aspects of Planning; Theory and Practice of Regional Development and Principles of Planning.
The successful candidate should also possess the following personal attributes:
- Excellent communication and dissemination capabilities
- A strong passion for teaching and research.
- Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Team player with interest in moving the department towards excellence.
Experience
- Candidates for the position of Senior Lecturer must have a minimum of five years of continuous teaching and research experience and evidence of at least three (3) peer-reviewed academic publications.
- For the position of Lecturer, a candidate must have at least 2 years of teaching in higher education institution/research experience and at least one (1) peer reviewed publication.
- For both positions, applicants who can demonstrate combined experience of planning practice and research/teaching will have an added advantage.
Duties and responsibilities
- Teach at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels
- Supervise undergraduate research projects and/or postgraduate dissertations
- Participate in the research programs of the Department/Faculty
- Conduct research in his/her area of expertise
- Develop new programmes and conduct curriculum review
- Serve in committees within the University and external professional organizations
- Engage in community outreach
- Assume administrative duties if required
Duration of employment
Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable terms for Locals, and Two Years’ Contract for Non-Locals with a possibility of renewal.
