DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY AND SOCIAL WORK FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES 

LECTURER IN SOCIAL WORK 

POST NO. 1916 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of a Lecturer  in Social Work.  

1. Minimum Qualifications and Requirements: 

Candidates must have: 

(i) At least a Masters’ Degree in Social Work;  

(ii) Have specialisation in any of the following areas: Clinical Social Work, Social  Development and Planning, and Social Administration. 

(iii) Teaching experience at a tertiary level. 

The following shall count as added advantage: 

(i) PhD in Social Work; 

(ii) A good and sustained record of research and publications; 

i) Evidence of service to the profession and the community;  

ii) Knowledge of teaching and research in Social Work Methodologies, particularly  quantitative research methods, and trends in social work education and training. 

The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications; clearly  specifying titles of publications, dates published name of publisher, and name of co authors if any. Publications should be categorized into: books, monographs, refereed  and non-refereed journals, chapters in books, etc. and include the DOI or ISSN  numbers.

2. Duties: 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach and assess undergraduate in Social  Work and to maintain publications of research articles in accredited journals and/or  books. The candidate will also be expected to supervise undergraduate students; participate in departmental and faculty tasks; collaborate with members of the  department in research and publications; community engagement; and undertake any  other duties that maybe assigned. 

3. Remuneration: 

The University offers salaries and other benefits commensurate with  qualifications and experience. 

4. Type of employment: 

Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable terms for Locals, and Two Years  Contract for Non-Locals with a possibility of renewal.
