The National University of Lesotho invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of a Lecturer for Nurse Clinician / Primary Health Care / Nurse Practitioner

1.0    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • A registered nurse who holds a Master degree as a Nurse practitioner, OR
  • A Registered Nurse who holds an undergraduate degree of a Nurse Clinician / Primary Health Care nurse and Master degree in Nursing
  • Experience in teaching and / or supervising learners at clinical area/ college/ university.
  • Be registered with the National Nursing Council.
  • Expertise in implementing Open distance learning/ Part time studies/ online teaching-learning management system
  • A PhD holder or learner enrolled in PhD will be an added advantage
  • Evidence of publication in refereed journals will be another added advantage.

2.0    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and Learning    

To contribute to learning, teaching, assessment and on-going curriculum development by involvement as part of a team through:

  • The design, preparation and development of course/module teaching materials;
  • The provision of high quality teaching, assessment and support for students’ learning on designated courses/modules at all levels;
  • The delivery of courses/modules through lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and other teaching-learning platforms;
  • Assessing courses/modules and preparing and providing feedback;
  • Participating in the quality enhancement of learning, teaching and assessment activities within the framework of the National University of Lesotho’s quality enhancement processes and assessment regulations;
  • Liaise closely with teaching, technical and administrative staff as appropriate to ensure a quality teaching and learning environment;
  • Invigilation, assessment administration and attending progression boards;
  • Adopting a reflective approach towards the development of own practice;
  • Giving effective advice, guidance and feedback to students to support their academic progress and referring students to support services as appropriate;
  • Demonstrates sound management of own teaching and administrative activities.
  • Assists in curriculum development and in reviewing and reforming courses, modules, subjects and programmes within the Department of Nursing.

Leadership, management and administration   

  • Liaises with and assist others in the administration and management of courses, modules, programmes and other learning activities.
  • Contributes to the administration of the academic programme at campus level. This may include undertaking tasks associated with student recruitment, open days, induction and programme planning; involvement in assessment boards, course development teams etc.
  • Assumes a designated leadership role in the relevant academic area as required. This may include the role of Module Co-ordinator and/or Programme Co-ordinator/ Tutor
  • Undertakes personal administrative work through the use of University data management and communication systems.

Research, Scholarship and Consultancy   

  • Undertakes personal research and/or scholarly activities and/or consultancy contributing to the Department, Faculty and University profile.
  • Presents research at national and/or international conferences and/ or at other appropriate events.
  • Writes papers and submit for publication in leading research journals and/or leading national/international conference proceedings or other outputs as appropriate to the discipline.
  • To keep abreast of the post holder’s subject area and participate in collaborative research projects as appropriate to the discipline.
  • To undertake continuous professional development and participate in staff development and training activities to update and enhance skills.
  • Identify sources of funding and secure funding for own research programme.
  • To supervise students’ scholarship and research activities.
  • Enhance research and publications in learners and junior teaching staff

General Functions 

  • To participate in the University staff appraisal scheme and other relevant activities.
  • To attend meetings and committees as appropriate
  • Promote team-building in the department and faculty
  • Liaises with other departments in the faculty
  • Aspire to being a Professor in Nursing.

    Remuneration:

The University offers salaries and other benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.

     Type of employment:

Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable terms for Locals, and Two Years’ Contract for Non-Locals with a possibility of renewal.
