Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

The applicant must:

  • Hold a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Educational Research, Measurement and Assessment, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution

Added Advantages

Preference will be given to candidates who:

  • Possess a PhD in Educational Research, Measurement and Assessment, or an equivalent qualification
  • Have relevant teaching experience at a tertiary institution
  • Have published scholarly work in the fields of educational measurement, assessment, or psychometrics
  • Have completed relevant courses in the discipline

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach relevant courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Conduct research and publish in educational measurement, assessment, and psychometrics
  • Supervise student research projects, where applicable
  • Participate in curriculum development and programme review activities within the Department
  • Contribute to academic administration and departmental service activities
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Department and Faculty from time to time

Skills and Abilities

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Strong background in psychometric theory and application, including knowledge of:
    • Item Response Theory (IRT)
    • Classical Test Theory (CTT)
    • Statistics
    • Test development procedures
    • Research design
  • Advanced knowledge of measurement topics such as:
    • Differential Item Functioning
    • Equating
    • Scaling
    • Generalizability Theory
    • Bayesian methodology
    • Standard setting (desirable)
  • Excellent computer skills and working knowledge of statistical software such as SPSS, JMETRIK, DIMTEST, or BILOG
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify errors and solve problems
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse professional and educational backgrounds

The University offers competitive salaries and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.


Employment Type

  • Permanent and pensionable / gratuitable employment for locals
  • Two‑year contract position for non‑locals
