Job Description

We are now accepting applicants for the position of Lead Irrigation Specialist/Engineer on a donor-funded irrigation infrastructure development activity involving design review and construction supervision of irrigation infrastructure. This position will be based in Maseru, Lesotho, with anticipated minor local travel within the country.

The ideal candidate will have experience performing and overseeing design/design review and tendering for projects in the agriculture/irrigation sector in Sub-Saharan Africa and other emergent nations. Local candidates are welcomed to apply.

Job Responsibilities:
• Review and advise on irrigation system design and design review and ensure successful implementation, including guidance, technical support and review of design, installation, and maintenance
• Provide direction/advice to client on efficient and cost-effective irrigation designs, system use, and scheduling and maintenance
• Effective cooperation, coordination, collaboration, and communication with the team leader, client, other projects’ contractors, and project stakeholders as required.
• Work closely with client’s environment, economics, social and gender, and monitoring and evaluation teams to review project activities.
• Assist to inform monitoring, evaluation, and learning framework, including application of information technology/remote sensing technology.
• Abiding by CDM Smith’s quality management program (QMP) and anti-corruption policy (ACP)

Minimum Qualifications

• BS Degree in civil, agricultural, irrigation, water resources, environmental engineering or closely related field. Professional engineering (PE) license.
• At least 10 years of experience in planning, design and/or design review of irrigation systems, some of which includes large projects.
• At least 2 years of experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa
• Experience on donor funded projects
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in international best practices for effective water and/or agricultural management.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Demonstrated knowledge of water resource and/or irrigation and drainage planning, management, and development
• The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Preferred Qualifications

• MS Degree in civil, agricultural, irrigation, water resources, environmental engineering or closely related field
• Licensed/chartered/registered engineer qualification
• Experience in Lesotho

Background Check and Drug Testing Information

CDM Smith reserves the right to require background checks including criminal, employment, education, licensure, etc. as well as credit and motor vehicle when applicable for certain positions. In addition, CDM Smith may conduct drug testing for designated positions. Background checks are conducted after an offer of employment has been made in the United States. The timing of when background checks will be conducted on candidates for positions outside the United States will vary based on country statutory law but in no case, will the background check precede an interview. If this position is subject to a background check for any convictions related to its responsibilities and requirements, employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation including criminal history. Criminal history will not automatically disqualify a candidate. In addition, during employment individuals may be required by CDM Smith or a CDM Smith client to successfully complete additional background checks, including motor vehicle record as well as drug testing.
