Role Summary/Purpose

The focus will be on design, implementation, maintenance, support of advanced control and optimization. The role will also support advanced process control (APC) in the mining and metals industry. This may include projects in global locations and support at times depending on global demand for control, with focus on control loop optimization and APC.

Essential Responsibilities

The primary function of the role is control loop performance monitoring and process troubleshooting a significant portion of the workload will be related to APC, remote multivariate process monitoring, as well as technical feasibility combined with business case assessments. The Lead Project Engineer will also work with the Solution Consulting and technical teams located in other regions delivering solution engineering and software services.

  • Take project lead and delivery ownership for solution delivery and implementations
  • Suggests improvements in products, processes and procedures.
  • Specifies needs, communicates about project approach and presents outcomes of research done.
  • Diverse clients in a region.
  • Works on the basis of predefined contracts and frameworks. Some latitude to deviate from those conditions.
  • Performing Control Loop tuning and optimization with selected loop tuning software
  • Delivering and maintaining Advanced Process Control Solutions and software implementations
  • Process performance optimization and associated consulting services
  • Assist with Process monitoring and if applicable act as subject matter expert for IPRC (Industrial Reliability and Performance Centre)
  • Assist sales process with Solution Consulting and value assessments and writing assessment reports
  • Support and/or execute projects using the broader Digital Mine suite of products, including SmartSignal, Historian, CSense and APC
  • Support sales process in performing site assessments
  • Provide field engineering support to ensure ongoing change management for solution implementation
  • Be the primary onsite contact for the customer, potentially for prolonged implementation periods

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering field such as Electrical, Electronic, Chemical, Metallurgical or Process Engineering
  • Formal qualification in Advanced Process Control
  • 3+ years of industrial experience in the Mining & Metallurgical industry, with advanced process control and automation products
  • Strong interpersonal skills and potential leadership and management skills
  • Team player and effective communicator at all levels within an organisation.

Ability and willingness to travel, domestically and internationally.

Desired Characteristics

  • Knowledge of or experience in plant processes and how these are represented by data streams preferable in mining industry
  • 5+ years experience in information systems
  • Willing to work on client sites (mines) as well as in the office
  • Willing to do client facing as well as computer based work, including relevant IT work and integration
  • Good communicator, verbal and written
  • Previous experience using Csense technology
  • Industry experience with engineering and control problems
  • Industry awareness
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English
