The Ministry of Health has been conducting the Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) for the past decade. The Lesotho Demographic Health Survey is a crucial national undertaking that plays a significant role in shaping health policies and programs. It provides essential insights into health indicators, demographic trends, and social factors, which are pivotal for informed decision-making and improving the lives of the people of Lesotho. Presently, preparations are underway for the implementation of the fourth LDHS in 2023, which is part of a series of surveys conducted in 2004, 2009 and 2014. The current DHS is deemed to be the critical one as it will provide information for the performance of Sustainable Development Goals especially SDG 3 and SDG 6 (SDGs).

The Ministry of Health seeks to engage qualified candidates to participate in the Lesotho Demographic Health Survey (LDHS) 2023 data collection process. The Ministry of Health invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to participate in the data collection exercise that will commence in September and end in December 2023.

Qualifications and Experience

The candidates should possess the following qualifications and experiences:

  1. Bachelor of Arts in Social Science Majoring in Statistics, Demography, and/or Economics:
    1. If you have a strong background in statistics, demography, or economics, and are passionate about working with data to derive meaningful conclusions, then we need your expertise!
  2. Degree or Diploma in Nursing:
    1. If you are a qualified nurse who is committed to promoting better healthcare and well-being for the communities of Lesotho, your skills are invaluable to us!
  3. Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health Sciences:
    1. Are you passionate about ensuring a healthy environment for all? If you have a background in environmental health sciences, we want you on our team!
  4. Degree in any other field will also be considered should there be insufficient applicants with qualifications mentioned in 1,2 and 3 above.
  • Prior participation in the survey or studies which included data collection will be an added advantage.

Key attributes and Characteristics

The candidates must be able to:

  • Communicate effectively in English
  • Travel and work in rural areas
  • Collect and record data accurately
  • Work independently and as part of a team

Willing to work odd hours, seven days a week and anywhere in Lesotho
