Language and Cultural Facilitators at Peace Corps Lesotho

Peace Corps/Lesotho is seeking to recruit Language and Cultural Facilitators (LCFs) on a part-time basis to work during pre-service training (PST) and in-service trainings (IST) of Peace Corps trainees and Volunteers (PCTs/PCVs).

This posting is to announce that Peace Corps/Lesotho will be creating a Roster of qualified applications, which will be valid from July

2019 through July 2021, off of which Peace Corps/Lesotho can select individuals to provide services as an LCF during one or more training events. Although this announcement has a closing date of June 7, 2019, applications may be reviewed by Peace Corps/Lesotho and
qualified applicants added to the Roster at any time during the Roster’s validity period, at Peace Corps/Lesotho’s discretion.

Statement of Work

The LCF is directly responsible for facilitating Peace Corps trainees’/Volunteers’ (PCT/Vs) acquisition of language, culture and technical skills in pre-service training (PST) and in-service trainings (ISTs) in order for PCT/Vs to successfully live and work in Lesotho. Working in coordination with the Language, Culture & Homestay coordinator (LCHC), the LCF will assume responsibility to design, implement, monitor and evaluate integrated language, cross-cultural and technical training during PST. While doing so, the LCF will be expected to participate in fully in all aspects of PST, as well as provide support and guidance to trainees. LCFs are required to live full-time in the training villages for approximately 12 weeks from mid-September to mid-December.

Required Qualifications for the Position. Please do not apply for this position if you do not meet the mandatory requirements.        

 At least three years’ experience facilitating Sesotho language and culture sessions for expatriates

     Fluent in both written and spoken English and Sesotho

     Available for training events as follows:

o    Training of trainers in late August

o    Pre-service training from mid-September to mid-December and in late March/early April

     Willing to work long hours during training events, while maintaining a positive and constructive attitude

     Proven ability to work as a member of a team

The contract award will be subject to the applicant’s successful completion of a background security investigation.

Desired Qualifications for the Position.

     Diploma or degree in African Languages or Adult Education

     Five years’ experience in teaching at the primary or high school level

     Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds

     Ability to write and produce reports in English

Your resume/CV and cover letter should clearly identify how you meet the required and desired (if applicable) qualifications.  Candidates who do not submit a complete application package will not be considered.

Applications must be submitted by COB on June 7, 2019. Late submissions will not be considered.  If found to be technically qualified

upon initial application review, you may be contacted for an interview.  Based on the outcome of the interview, an applicant’s name will be placed on the Roster.

When a PST or IST event requiring that a short-term PSC is needed, everyone on the Roster will be contacted. The names and

information for all interested candidates are sent to the Contracting Officer, who may request that candidates participate in additional interview(s) and/or evaluation measure(s), at the sole discretion of the Contracting Officer.

The competitive evaluation of candidates at this stage may be based on the criteria specified above, including the results of the initial
interview and rankings of Roster applicants based on the initial interview scores, as well as the consideration of other criteria such as:

     Past performance in similar positions (both formal and informal information regarding past performance may be sought by

Peace Corps and considered). Past performance information may be obtained on both hard skills (i.e. technical experience and expertise, quality and timeliness of work product produced, etc.) and soft skills (i.e. professional judgment, professional
demeanor, leadership abilities, ability to work as a member of a team, etc.)

Based on the outcome of the initial interview and rankings of Roster applicants, and/or those additional application reviews, interview(s) and/or other evaluation measure(s), one or more candidates will be selected to fill the particular open position. Peace Corps/Lesotho reserves the right to contract with individuals outside of the Roster, should it be in its best interests to do so.
