Job Title: Labourer (12 positions)
Contract Duration: Fixed-term, 24 months
The Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO) invites applications from suitably qualified local candidates for the position of Labourer.
Purpose of the Role
Reports To: Foreman Water Distribution
Key Tasks
Infrastructure Maintenance
To provide general labour requirements within the Distribution Department for repair and maintenance of designated Distribution facilities.
- Prompt repair of network defects, including pipe bursts (major & minor), single-handed or as a team member as per instruction.
- Repairs valves and attends to water supply problems as per instruction and standard operating procedures.
- Carries out excavations to expose mains and valves for repairs.
- Carries out temporary road reinstatements and general backfilling at repair sites after repairs.
- Carry out investigations of leakages to determine any remedial action.
- Keep safe custody of tools and maintain them in good and clean condition.
- Clean chambers by dewatering.
- Carry out any assigned duties by the Foreman or Supervisor.
Safety, Health and Environment
- Observe and maintain safety and good health practices at work sites.
- Participate in the reinstatement of the environment after any work carried out or completion of works that affect the road.
- Maintain cleanliness of the site and its surroundings.
Reporting
- Keep count of used material after completion of every job.
- Report need for closure of supply to the Foreman whenever necessary.
- Report to the Foreman any areas of concern on site.
- Report any observed hazards.

Minimum Qualifications & Required Experience
Candidates must:
- There is no minimum formal qualification required. However, relevant hands-on experience is essential, particularly in construction, water utilities, trenching, roadworks, or general labouring.
- Be in good physical condition and able to perform heavy manual work.
- Have prior experience in physically demanding roles.
- Be able to follow instructions, work well in teams, and adhere to safety standards.
- Be comfortable working outdoors, at heights, or in confined spaces.
- Be willing and available to work outside normal office hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, especially during emergency repairs or service disruptions.
- Experience in the water or sanitation sector is an added advantage.
