The Ministry of Health has received support from Center for Disease Control (CDC) under the project title “Strengthening  Ministry of Health’s Capacity (MOH-Cap) for HIV Diagnosis, Treatment and Monitoring in the Kingdom of Lesotho”. The Ministry is looking for a suitable candidate for the position of Laboratory Technologist.

JOB TITLE   :           Laboratory Technologist

PURPOSE:

Laboratory Technologist is responsible for implementation of safety precautions and quality assurance, sample reception, sample analysis, reporting of results, compilation and maintenance of laboratory records and preventive maintenance of equipment.

MAIN DUTIES

  1. IMPLEMENTATION OF QUALITY AND SAFETY PROCEDURES
  • Adhere to organizational and departmental specific safety standards and guidelines
  • Daily prepares disinfectants according to the SOPs
  • Daily cleans, disinfects working environment and update logs
  • Daily checks and monitors environmental temperatures (room, fridge, freezer)
  • Dispose off completed samples according to the guidelines.
  1. PREPARATION OF SPECIMEN FOR ANALYSIS
  • Daily receives samples and matches them with request forms
  • Daily monitors quality of samples according to specimen rejection criteria specified in the Laboratory Hand Book and document reasons for specimen rejection.
  • Daily records patients /clients names in Laboratory Information System (LIS) or in laboratory log book.
  • Prepares samples for processing and analysis
  1. ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES
  • Daily conduct equipment maintenance and document.
  • Daily calibrate machines, runs internal controls as per quality guidelines and Standard Operating procedures (SOPs) and document.
  • Review control results and initiate corrective action where applicable.
  • Daily analyse samples as per protocol /SOPs
  • Daily check for flagging results and take corrective measures.
  • Refer critical results to SLT
  • Store or archive samples as per stipulated procedures.
  1. REPORTING OF RESULTS
  • Daily submits results to Senior Laboratory Technologist for verification
  • Daily record verified findings and results into the laboratory information system (LIS) or laboratory log book.
  • Weekly compiles quality control and equipment calibration results and submit to Senior Laboratory Technologist for review.
  1. RECORDS KEEPING
  • Daily files patient records
  • Daily dispatches patients/ client results
  • Monthly compiles bench statistics in the section and submits to the senior Laboratory Technologist
  • Monthly conducts stock count

Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences

Duration and Remuneration:

This position is for (1) year period and it is renewable based on performance and availability of funding.

The salary for this position is market related, but will also be commensurate with requisite qualifications and experience.
