The National University of Lesotho invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following post:
FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE:
POST NO. 3625 – LABORATORY TECHNICIAN CROP SCIENCE
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Must be in possession of Diploma in laboratory instrumentation and other related disciplines,
Must have good interpersonal and analytical skills,
Must have experience of at least five (5) years of laboratory work,
Must be knowledgeable of biological and chemical laboratory procedures (AOCA),
Must be cognizant of occupational and health safety regulations,
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills,
Must be willing to learn operations of the state of art equipment such as molecular tools (PCR,electrophoresis, etc).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
The successful appointee will be expected to:
Collect, receive, label and analyze samples, and produce results,
Clean, sterilize, maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment,
Maintain glass-ware, log/record book, trouble-shoot problems and resolve them,
Identify the needs of the laboratory in the Department of Crop Science and follow procurement procedures for acquisition of such items,
Set up experiments for various courses under the supervision of lecturers and assists in the supervision of laboratory experiments,
Mark the laboratory reports from students and compile the marks,
Perform laboratory tests and analysis,
Assist with field plot research conducted on-farm and on-station for subsequent sample analysis.
CONTRACT DURATION:
The appointment will be on permanent and pensionable terms for locals and contract/gratuitable for non-locals subject to completion of probation.
REMUNERATION:
The University offers salaries and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.
