KARABO EA BOPHELO at Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho

The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho (BCMCFL), is the result of a public-private partnership between Baylor College of Medicine International Paediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI) and the Government of Lesotho, and is a legal, non-profit/tax exempt organization registered in Lesotho. BCMCFL provides free paediatric and family-centred HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care, treatment and support, serving thousands of children and families affected by HIV, TB, or other child health conditions. Karabo ea Bophelo (KB) is a five-year USAID-funded activity to prevent new HIV infections and reduce vulnerability among orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Lesotho. All positions are based in Maseru, Lesotho on full-time, fixed term contracts.

  1. KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Position Description:

The Officer will be responsible for implementing the knowledge management and communications strategies of the KB programme, developing and documenting success stories and keeping the social media channels of the programme active and engaging.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Developing and Managing KB’s communication assets (Website, newsletter, social media channels, etc) to enable strategic and effective communication between KB and its stakeholders;
  • Assisting in developing communication plans for events and new projects;
  • Maintaining and ensuring the organisation’s branding clarity and consistency;
  • Writing/copyediting press releases, news articles and content marketing for KB’s newsletter as well as external media outlet;
  • Assisting in media liaison;
  • Assisting in creating visual products based on text-based knowledge products and other strategic evidence (i.e., static/kinetic infographic, PSA video, vox pop video, etc);
  • Managing visual documentation of projects’ activities and events.

Qualifications, Experience & Required Skills:

  • A university degree in communications, marketing, journalism, development studies or other related studies;
  • Fluency in managing social media platforms (Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, YouTube) and    other related supporting applications, including their analytic platforms;
  • Proficiency in using Mailchimp and SurveyMonkey; 
  • Proficiency in using Google Analytics;
  • A minimum of two-year working experience as communications officer or any other related positions;
  • Strong digital and offline marketing skills; Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong organisational and programmatic skills; Able to work with graphic designers;
  • Able to take initiative and work well independently and as part of a team;
  • Good understanding in media and stakeholder liaison and engagement strategies.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working on monitoring, evaluation and learning for donor funded projects; USAID experience is highly desirable;
  • Strong knowledge proficiency on HIV Prevention, sexual health topics;
  • Basic Knowledge of Demand Creation strategies;
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate with wide range of stakeholders both verbally and in writing;
  • Proven experience in managing multiple and competing tasks while maintaining quality of deliverables within deadlines;
  • Strong communication skills and ability to write clear and concise reports in English;
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills in English required. Strong knowledge proficiency on HIV Prevention, sexual health topics, desirable;
  • Demonstrated high proficiency in English and Sesotho (reading, writing and speaking).
