About the Position

Sonke is looking for a committed, suitably qualified and experienced individual to fill the position of Junior Trainer who will be responsible for supporting the planning, development and implementation of the Concern Worldwide (CWW) capacity-building project, including: providing research support; conducting trainings on gender norms transformation for Concern staff and partner organisations; assisting with donor reports; as well as providing general support to Sonke’s Regional Programme and Networks Unit (RPU). The trainer will be expected to travel and spend considerable amount of time in remote locations in the following countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Burundi, CAR, Chad, DRC, Ethiopia, Haiti, Iraq, Pakistan, Kenya, Lebanon, Liberia, Malawi, Niger, Sierra Leon, Somalia, Syria, Sudan, Turkey.
 
Key duties and responsibilities

  1. Support planning, development and implementation of the Concern Worldwide project  
    Providing field support
    Support on community mobilization activities if requested by the Concern in-country teams
    Assist with the development of curriculum and provision of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) material
    Training and mentoring
    Provision and distribution of project materials
    Provide logistical support when hosting and organizing meetings
     2. Research support – Support the Senior Trainer and Project Coordinator with:
    Performing periodic desktop research on different themes and topics assigned by the project coordinator
    Provide a summary of key findings
  2. Conduct trainings for Concern staff and partner organisations on gender norms transformation
    Support the senior trainer and Project Coordinator in the design of the in-country workshops
    Compile workshop materials and ensure that all materials and supporting documents, i.e. handouts are in place
    Conduct in-country trainings
    Write detailed travel reports with recommendations to Concern country offices
     4. Support project review processes
    Review and collate of project documents and reports in preparation for project review processes
  3. Contribute to the drafting of donor reports
    Document experiences and lessons learned from the field and provide summary of key results
  4. Support to the Regional Programmes Unit activities
    Support the development of the MenEngage network within Africa and outside, through creating country-based linkages with Concern Worldwide country-based programmes
    Attend Sonke/MenEngage Africa meetings, where appropriate and requested
  5. Administration
    Prepare payment requisitions and quotations in line with payment policy
    Familiarity with Finance, Administration and Procurement procedures.
    Education, experience and competencies:  
    Bachelor’s degree in gender studies, political science, or another relevant field, or relevant  experience
    2-3 years’ work experience in the gender field; with good knowledge of the NGO sector in the African region, MENA region and internationally
    Strong written and verbal communication skills
    Ability to speak and write English and Arabic is essential
    The ability to speak and write French is an added advantage
    Familiarity with gender transformative work with men and boys, including primary social change strategies, key organisations and networks in the region, key research findings and the associated evidence base for the work an advantage
    Experience in training of organisations on gender equality
    Familiarity with the Western, Southern, Eastern African region and the Middle East and North Africa region, and on policies and programmes relating to gender equality and gender-based violence engaging men and boys an advantage
    Problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently, under pressure, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to prioritize time and work effectively
    Ability to pay attention to detail, displays a high level of integrity, able to multi-task and is deadline driven.
    Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
    Budgeting and financial management skills
    Willingness to travel outside South Africa for at least 70% of the time to areas where the project will take place
    Strong computer skills especially with MS Word, Excel and other related packages
    A valid driver’s license is a requirement and essential.
