Junior Rail Signal Engineer:


Hatch
is currently seeking a Junior Rail Signal Engineer in our Johannesburg office. This role forms part of an elite team of signalling professionals focusing on Southern African projects with certain opportunities to work internationally, if desired. This position is an entrepreneurial role whereby you will have access to more than 500 global rail experts and other Hatch Subject Matter Experts, whose knowledge and expertise will significantly contribute to your ultimate success.

Our ideal candidate has an interest in the rail signalling industry in South Africa, striving for technical excellence. Whilst engineering excellence is important, it is equally important to develop interpersonal skills as internal and client interaction will be required.


Typical duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  • Assisting the Senior Engineers / Engineering managers with defining and delivering in accordance with the project requirements
  • Preparing and contributing to technical memos and reports
  • Providing input into engineering, operating and capital cost estimates and design reviews
  • Preparing and/or reviewing project standard specifications and design criteria
  • Assisting to compile and deliver monthly engineering status reports
  • Providing project management support for signalling projects
  • Staying up-to-date with the latest signalling systems and standards.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering; or equivalent experience
  • Member of (or eligible for membership) an engineering professional body e.g. ECSA
  • 0 to 2 years’ experience in designing, engineering and / or testing train control systems
  • Interest in railway engineering technologies
  • Excellent oral and written communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to produce designs using CAD software (AutoCAD and Micro Station) would be advantageous
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office packages
  • Ability to work in a cooperative team environment
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Valid driver’s license and willing to travel for work.
