The Support CAD Draughtsman is the entry level position in the Dimension Data Draughtsmen family.The Support CAD Draughtsman works closely with the Engineering Team and contractors, generating two and three dimensional models and drawings using AutoCAD software for low to medium complexity projects. They make technical drawings used for the production of various sites, items or components used by Dimension Data.
What you’ll be doing
Produce drawings
The Support CAD Draughtsman assists with the conducting of site surveys with clients and contractors and obtains the required measurements and specifications for the site designs. They draw hand sketches during each site survey enabling the creation of original drawings on the computer which is technically accurate and can be easily produced into models. They take responsibility for the design specifications from concept to completion. When they make the drawings, the designers include dimensions, materials to be used, and the procedural steps in completing the project. They assist with the preparation of these technical drawings to final drawing stage, meeting client specifications. At times, they may be required to assist with the preparation of tender drawings.
Ensure quality
To ensure accuracy and compliance to Dimension Data standards, Support CAD Draughtsman are involved with checking the designs created by the other designers and have their own designs reviewed by Engineers. They ensure the correct and relevant fitting of installation to structure and constraints and ensure that survey, drawings and planned installations conform to client and specification requirements. They assist in ensuring that all project quality procedures are followed at all times.
Stakeholder engagement
These individuals are required to interface with a variety of stakeholders, including Engineers and Contractors. They assist various disciplines by playing a supporting role in the continuous development of survey and CAD environment in the design offices.
Best practice
Support CAD Draughtsman maintain a working knowledge of their industry, and apply specific drafting codes and standards, following functional specifications of the designs assigned to them. They analyse design requirements and recommend possible solutions and/or alternative constructions.
Administration and documentation
Support CAD Draughtsman are responsible for completing site survey reports and the indexing, recording and filing of survey documents, plans and drawing prints in line with existing procedures.
Objectives & Goals are to achieve AI production flow by re-instating ideas, model new plan layouts and aesthetics designs within the Telecommunication, Network and technology infrastructure.

As a Support CAD Draughtsman you will need to:
- Attend all relevant site surveys with client and subcontractors.
- Obtaining site measurements by means of Surveys of new and existing information.
- Complete a site survey report and draw all required drawings during each site survey.
- Ensure accuracy of drawings.
- Co-ordination between disciplines
- Ensure correct and relevant fitting of installation to structure and constraints.
- Interface with contracts engineers and contractors.
- Ensure timeous submission of drawings and survey documents to all parties
- Ensure Survey, Drawings and planned installations conform to client and specification requirements.
- Setting up base plans and transferring designs to drawing format
- Ensure that all project quality procedures are followed
- Assist in the preparation of tender documentation and drawings
- Be able to play a supporting role in the continuous development of the survey & CAD environment in the design offices
- Filing of survey document, plans and prints, indexing and recording of drawing prints, oversee indexing and filing of survey documents, plans in accordance with existing procedures
- Documentation handling (Document handling in accordance with existing procedures)
- Detailing of minor reinforced concrete structures
- Preparation of technical drawings and final drawings
- Printing and issuing of Panduit wrap around labels
- Printing and issuing of engraved polystyrene panel labels
- Booking out of fiber and UTP test equipment

Support CAD Draughtsman work well under pressure and are able to handle multiple projects at the same time without compromising the quality of their work.
Experience and requirements
- 1- 2 years experience in developing basic GSM site design and detailed equipment design for production and installation
- Experience using 2D/3D CAD AutoDesk packages such as AutoCAD 2018 (and 2019 version) and Revit 2019
- The individual would be required to accompany the solutions architects and PMs to sites for surveys and obtain the measurements to enable him/her to design the site from his/her own measurements.
- He/she will also be required to go to surveys on his/her own to obtain measurements
