The CSIR has a vacancy for a Junior Assistant in the Human Capital Portfolio. The successful incumbent will provide secretarial and administration support to the Senior Manager: SET Human Capital Development (HCD) and the HCD team. This position is based in Pretoria.


Key responsibilities:

  • Provide secretarial and administration support to the Senior Manager: SET HCD and the HCD team, including diary, telephone, filing and other office duties;
  • Complete assigned general HR administration duties, core processes to HR functioning and practices within the department;
  • Type and prepare various documents accurately, timeously and in accordance with the specific needs to which the document is required;
  • Capture data of applications for various HCD programmes;
  • Perform information searches on the Internet and in relevant books, journals and magazines in order to assist the manager according to defined requirements on a regular basis;
  • Organise meetings and events according to the needs of the manager or programme;
  • Draft letters and ensure that the office functions effectively with regards to equipment, stationery, etc.;
  • Acquire, maintain and apply sufficient knowledge and skills to effectively utilise various software programs and systems relevant to the office environment (e.g. MS Suite);
  • Prepare travel itineraries and make the necessary bookings using the CSIR systems.


Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • An administration qualification or any other relevant qualification with one years’ experience;
  • Service orientation;
  • Self-reliant and using own discretion;

  • Ability to exercise tact and good judgement with highly-sensitive information;

  • High levels of computer literacy required;

  • Demonstrated track record of the ability to work accurately and efficiently;

  • Demonstrate personal credibility and the ability to establish and maintain good relationships within the workplace;

  • Ability to deliver on the job requirements;

  • Respect for confidentiality and human dignity ;

  • Able to function independently within a team based environment.
