The Jabulani Rural Health Foundation (JRHF) is a nonprofit organisation that supports Zithulele Hospital and its surrounding community. Founded in 2007 by four Christian doctors the focus is on healthcare, education, poverty relief, environmental issues and community development.

JRHF seeks to appoint a Project Coordinator for the Rural Ability Programme, to be based in Eastern Cape.

The purpose of the position is to oversee the management, planning, implementation and operational requirements of the Rural Ability Programme, a community based inclusive development programme for people with disabilities, run by Jabulani Rural Health Foundation based in Zithulele Village in the Eastern Cape.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and guide the Rural Ability Programme’s vision through managing internal and external processes that seek to deepen the objectives of the programme and that of the Jabulani Rural Health Foundation
  • Overall responsibility and management of a community based inclusive development programme that focuses specifically on persons with disabilities (adults and children)
  • Extensive involvement in programme development, including developing strategies, systems, policies and protocols
  • Financial management including the development and ongoing management of the programme’s annual budget and multi-year plans
  • Regular communication with Jabulani Rural Health Foundation senior management, funders and programme partners
  • Supervise and support of seven community disability workers, a programme assistant and a community livelihoods facilitator, including regular performance evaluation and skills development planning
  • Liaise and partnership building with stakeholders, including government departments (Departments of Health, Education and Social Development), local communities, community-based organisations, NGOs, service providers and the private sector, regarding their buy-in and support of the programme
  • Support the programme team to engage with beneficiaries of the programme and key stakeholders in planning for community advocacy, awareness raising as well as resource mobilisation
  • Plan and implement training sessions (internal and external) in relation to expressed needs from people with disabilities, the programme team and the Zithulele Rehabilitation Departments
  • Other appropriate duties as needed or required for the work of the programme or the organisation

Requirements:

  • A minimum of four to five years’ experience after receiving a Degree in Rehabilitation Sciences, Disability Studies, Public Health, Social Sciences, Community Development or equivalent; or demonstrable track record of managing a community based project including project development, operational, financial and staff management
  • Proven financial planning and budget management experience
  • Strategic thinker with proven ability to develop and deliver on programme objectives and targets
  • Written and verbal communication skills (in English) to produce reports and support fundraising activities for the programme
  • Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and cope with the pressure of meeting deadlines
  • Strong understanding of what leadership means and experience of developing the leadership capabilities of others
  • A good manager of people and a team builder who can support a central and decentralised team
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, including: fluency in English; the ability to teach, train and advocate; ability to work alongside people with disabilities, government departments and other service providers
  • Willingness to travel within the district and beyond to support programme development and other activities as required
  • Ability to deal with confidential information and/or issues requiring discretion and judgement
  • Knowledge of Microsoft (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • A valid driving license

Advantageous:

  • Experience in coordination of public or non-government programmes
  • Knowledge/experience of working or living in rural communities and/or in a resource-limited environment
  • Fluency/moderate ability to communicate in IsiXhosa
  • Experience in Community Based Rehabilitation, Disability issues and Rehabilitation
