Jembi seeks to appoint an accomplished and well-qualified Programs/Operations Director to be based in Cape Town.

The purpose of this position is to lead a cross-disciplinary team of program managers, public health specialists and technologists. The team includes Jembi’s South Africa, Multi-Country and International Programs as well as software development and product teams and delivers digital health programs in South Africa and other African countries. The South Africa Programs Director is a member of Jembi’s Executive Management Team and works with the Mozambique Programs Director and Corporate Services Division Director to assist the CEO to operationalize Jembi’s strategy and champion internal policies consistent with our values as a mission-driven, non-profit organization.

Responsibilities:

  • South African citizens or International citizens with a valid visa or visa in process for South Africa.
  • English language proficiency
  • Knowledge of other Southern African languages is desirable but not required.
  • Valid South African driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel locally, regionally and internationally, as required
  • Relevant tertiary level training and advanced knowledge in digital health, medicine, public health, computer science, information systems, or a related field
  • Minimum ten years of experience in a relevant senior management, academic or international position, working with highly-skilled professionals and/or managers in public health or information systems, preferably with cross-cultural experience
  • Advanced programme and project management skills and experience, at Director level, including project development, budget preparation, expenditure tracking, monitoring and evaluation, narrative and financial reporting
  • Leadership skills: including the ability to innovate and strategize in the domain of public health and information systems
  • Ability to represent Jembi at a senior level, interfacing with donors, government, international organisations and partners
  • Management skills: including the ability to develop and manage a team of technical and programme management professionals
  • Knowledge and/or experience of establishing country offices, strategy development, programme implementation, operational management and resourcing
  • Knowledge of rules and procedures, as well as experience in budgeting and development of grant and project proposals, for international funding agencies such as the United States Government.
  • Ensuring that programs are planned from start to completion involving deadlines, milestones and processes
  • Developing or approving budgets and operations strategies
  • Experience in Resource Mobilisation and ability to write grant proposals and manage the entire resource mobilization cycle
  • Devise evaluation strategies to monitor performance and determine the need for improvements
  • Discover ways to enhance efficiency and productivity across responsibility mandate
  • Apply change, risk and resource management principles when needed
  • Ensure program operations and activities adhere to legal guidelines and internal policies

The position is based at Jembi’s head office in Tokai, Cape Town, South Africa with regular travel within South Africa and potentially other African and international countries.
