Are you our new Investment Associate?

Do you have experience with early-stage investing and working with entrepreneurs? Are you passionate about supporting African ventures that create a more inclusive, resilient future? Then this is your call for action! We are looking for a new team member to help grow our portfolio of impactful start-ups and interventions across Sub-Saharan Africa.

ABOUT US

BESTSELLER Foundation is a private foundation, philanthropically funded by fashion group

BESTSELLER. As a for-profit impact investor, the foundation invests in businesses with positive social and environmental impact, specifically targeting early-stage, climate-tech ventures in Sub-Saharan Africa. We support enterprises at the seed, start-up, and scale-up phase. In addition to investing in entrepreneurs that invest in planet and people, we drive catalytic initiatives that create an enabling environment for our pipeline and portfolio.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As our new Investment Associate, you’ll play an active role in deal origination and deal-making as well as supporting our existing portfolio. Main responsibilities include:

• Exploring emerging investment opportunities and performing research on markets, companies, and themes that align with our investment mandate (predominantly climatetech and circular economy)

• Playing an active role in the deal making process – from sourcing and screening new investment opportunities to due diligence, deal execution, and closing

• Collaborating with portfolio companies on their growth journey, including support on financial and impact management, including portfolio management of specific investees

• Supporting the development of strong partnerships with co-investors and other stakeholders

• Overseeing portfolio reporting on a quarterly basis

WHAT YOU BRING

• +3 years of experience in impact investing, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa; perhaps you’ve worked for an intermediary advising multiple clients and structuring deals, perhaps you’ve been an investment analyst at a venture fund, or perhaps you’ve founded/operated a company

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, research, and financial modeling skills

• Ability to think strategically and handle ambiguity

• Team-oriented with ability and willingness to contribute to a strong team culture; experience working across multi-cultural teams is a plus

• Strong project management skills with experience managing multiple priorities to deliver results

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills

• Strong experience in our investment focus areas (climate-tech, circular economy, etc) is an advantage

WHAT WE OFFER

• Competitive compensation package and generous leave package

• Flat organisational structure, where everybody contributes to the development of the Foundation

• High focus on professional development and opportunity to grow in the role

LOCATION

Flexible, preferably Denmark or one of the main start-up ecosystems in SSA; Nairobi, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Lagos, etc.
