Position Overview

OCCRP is looking for ambitious and tenacious investigative journalists who want to report on global, world-changing stories. The ideal candidate will have an unquenchable curiosity and a drive to expose wrongdoing in the public interest. They are meticulous, resourceful, and have a nose for what makes a great, impactful story.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with OCCRP’s investigative editors to identify and pursue hard-hitting, follow-the-money investigations.
  • Join teams of other reporters from OCCRP’s regional teams and partner organizations to collaborate on our biggest and most complex stories. Be the frontline of investigative excellence for OCCRP’s network of journalists.
  • Understand and always seek to uphold OCCRP’s high standards for levels of proof, fairness, accuracy, and newsworthiness.
  • Utilize commercial databases, OSINT, sources and other tools to provide information as needed to advance stories.
  • Offer your investigative skills and experience to OCCRP’s member centers and partners where required.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven track record of reporting investigations, with a preference for follow-the-money stories and related investigative skills (OSINT, familiarity with commercial databases, experience working with large datasets, commercial records etc.)
  • Comfortable working independently and under pressure, and able to meet tight deadlines.
  • Good storytelling skills, with the ability to turn complex topics into enjoyable, readable copy.
  • Attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills.
  • An understanding of libel/slander, privacy, tort and other laws that affect journalism is a plus.
  • Strong familiarity with any of the following regions is a plus (but not required):
    • Central and Eastern Europe
    • South Caucasus and Central Asia
    • Eurasia
    • Africa
    • Latin America
  • Proficiency in languages other than English, especially Russian or Spanish, is a plus.
