Hands On Investigative Journalism Fellowship Starting From October 1, 2021
The MNN Centre for Investigative Journalism, with support from the Southern Africa Investigative Journalism Hub, IJ HUB , invites applications from print and broadcast journalists aspiring to undergo a three-month intensive investigative reporting fellowship with the Centre.
This project is meant to cultivate, enhance and promote investigative journalism in Lesotho. The successful fellow will learn, through practice with the Centre, skills and tactics of handling investigative reports, report on issues of national interest and concern to promote accountability and transparency from those wielding power, expose corruption and wrongdoing, protect human rights and promote good governance.
Successful applicant will enjoy an opportunity to work with our friendly but hardworking and innovative team, together with the IJ HUB editorial, to strengthen their investigative skills for a period of three months.
The MNNCIJ, therefore, wishes to reiterate to potential applicants that the internship is fully hands-on programme where successful candidate is expected to: – propose story ideas; do investigations; and publish under the strict guidance of their mentors.
Applicants must therefore:
Submit a complete and up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (Resumé).
Submit at least three original investigative story ideas on corruption and integrity issues in Lesotho they wish to pursue when selected.
Preference will go to stories where some preliminary research has been done. For already practising journalists, at least two samples of published investigative stories should be submitted.
Applicants should be either practising journalists from any recognised Lesotho media outlet, freelancers or journalism/media students. Have interest in investigative journalism with focus on integrity issues in Lesotho.
Be available full-time to join the Centre for the prescribed period and to work on set investigative projects.
If successful, a letter from your superior (preferably your editor) granting approval to participate in the programme will be required.
Every story produced by successful fellows shall be published with their media outlet, on the Centre’s website and abroad.
The MNNCIJ offers a reasonable monthly stipend and resources to successful fellows in doing their stories.
