Course Description

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) helps to reduce the risk of infection and improves prevention and control in humanitarian aid, emergencies and crises. In this one-day course, you will get a comprehensive overview of the field of action WASH. The focus of the course is on water resources and water treatment. Two speakers will report on their on-field experiences in Uganda testing methods of water treatment at the household level. Starting with the necessity of the topic, the health risks, challenges and opportunities of water and sanitation, and concluding with a real-life WASH-workshop example from Uganda. Between the individual course sessions, there is time for group work and exchange. The course is planned as an online course on 30 November and includes regular breaks. The training is advertized and conducted under the umbrella of the academy for humanitarian action (aha).

Trainer

Dörthe Sievers and Ramona Hinz are graduates of the MA Water Science (Münster) and have already dealt with the topic of WASH, especially water supply, in their master theses. In addition, they have “hands on” experience in the field of WASH. Since 2021, they have been working as research assistants on a project at Münster University of Applied Sciences in the context of water treatment at household level. From February to April, they were in Uganda (Gulu) for research purposes as part of a project funded by theThe German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU). As part of this field experience, they tested products for decentralised (mobile) water treatment for efficiency, handling, price-performance ratio and sustainability. Furthermore, during and after their university studies, they gained initial experience in planning projects in the context of water treatment and supply.
