The African Union Commission (AUC) invites applications from eligible citizens of African Union Member States for its Internship Programme. The programme provides final-year students and recent graduates with an opportunity to gain practical work experience while contributing to the implementation of the African Union’s programmes and initiatives.
𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩:
The internship programme aims to:
- Provide practical work experience within the African Union.
- Enhance participants’ professional and leadership skills.
- Expose interns to the operations of a continental organization.
- Support the implementation of AU programmes and projects.
- Foster multicultural collaboration and knowledge sharing.
𝐀𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬:
Internships are available across several African Union departments, including:
- Human Resources Management
- Agriculture and Rural Development
- Education, Science, Technology and Innovation
- Political Affairs, Peace and Security
- Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development
- Infrastructure and Energy
- Information and Communication
- Finance
- Legal Affairs
- Women, Gender and Youth
- Strategic Planning
- Internal Oversight
- Medical Services
- NEPAD
- Conference Management
- And other AU departments.
𝐄𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬:
Applicants must:
- Be a citizen of an African Union Member State.
- Be in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree programme, or have completed a Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant field.
- Be fluent in at least one African Union working language (English, French, Arabic or Portuguese).
- Be no more than 32 years of age at the time of selection.
- Demonstrate integrity, professionalism and high moral standards.
- Have no serious criminal convictions.
- No previous work experience is required.
𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Good computer, email and internet skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Knowledge of an additional AU working language is an added advantage.
𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐬:
- Full-time internship.
- Initial duration of three (3) months, renewable once for an additional three (3) months.
- The African Union does not provide a salary or stipend.
- Interns are responsible for their travel, accommodation, living expenses and medical insurance.
- The AU will make reasonable efforts to assist successful applicants with visa arrangements.
𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬:
Applicants must submit:
- Motivation letter.
- Current Curriculum Vitae (CV) using the mandatory African Union CV Template.
- Certified copies of academic certificates.
- Copy of a valid passport or national identity card.
- Recommendation letter from the institution of learning.
- Any other relevant supporting documents.
