INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Internship: Support to ReNOKA (ICM II)

Duty Station: Maseru, Lesotho

Reporting Line: Component Manager – Enabling Environment

Duration: Contract until 30 November 2026

Background

The BMZ‑financed programme “Transboundary Water Management in SADC” supports the implementation of regional strategies for Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM). In its fifth phase and upcoming sixth phase, the programme continues to support the national ReNOKA programme for Integrated Catchment Management (ICM) in Lesotho, co‑financed by the European Union (EU).

ReNOKA is a multi‑stakeholder initiative comprising ministries, civil society, and the private sector. Its objective is to enhance capacities of Basotho stakeholders and implement measures for rehabilitation of degraded land and water resources, prevention at catchment level, and strengthening of community livelihoods.

Phase I (ICM I) piloted harmonised catchment planning processes and implemented climate‑resilient rehabilitation and prevention measures. The second phase, Support to ReNOKA – ICM II (April 2026 – March 2030), focuses on ensuring the long‑term sustainability of the ICM approach in Lesotho.

The ICM II Action aims to promote sustainably managed land and water resources, address the water‑energy‑natural resources nexus, advance climate resilience, strengthen national water sector capacities, and enhance cooperation at community, catchment, and transboundary levels. It also focuses on creating a business case for ICM, supporting ICM implementation, piloting Water‑Energy Nexus projects, establishing Decision Support Systems, and enhancing Human Capacity Development (HCD).
