Job Title: Internal Surveyor & Valuer
Job Summary
The Internal Risk Surveyor is responsible for assessing, evaluating, and reporting on risks associated with insured properties, operations, and activities. The role provides technical support to underwriting decisions by identifying hazards, determining risk acceptability, and recommending risk improvement measures to protect the company’s portfolio and support sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct physical and desktop risk surveys and valuations for domestic, commercial, and industrial risks
• Evaluate the adequacy of risk controls, fire protection systems, security measures, and overall risk exposure
• Identify hazards and recommend practical mitigation measures
• Prepare detailed, accurate survey reports within agreed timelines
• Offer guidance on risk classification, occupancy, construction, and protection standards
• Provide risk‑based recommendations to the underwriting team to inform pricing, terms, and acceptance decisions
• Assist in the review of high‑risk or complex proposals requiring technical assessment
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of building codes, occupational safety regulations, fire standards, and relevant insurance guidelines
Qualifications and Experience
• Diploma or Degree in Risk Management, Engineering, Insurance, Urban and Regional Planning, or a related field
• Knowledge of fire protection systems, safety standards, and property risk evaluation
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel for field surveys
Skills and Competencies
• Excellent report writing and communication abilities
• Strong attention to detail with sound technical understanding
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple site visits
