Interior Architect and Space Planner 

About the job:

The CSIR has a vacancy for an Interior Architect and Space Planner. The incumbent will be responsible to plan, design and prepare detailed drawings and plans for construction work in support of the Project Management Team, as well as provide services related to the maintenance and upkeep of Facilities AutoCAD drawings and real estate data. This position is based in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the space management standards and guidelines to ensure achievement of occupancy goals, cost containment and reduction, and efficient space utilization;
  • Manage space efficiency to decrease occupancy costs and optimize utilization through accurate space allocation and chargeback;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the CSIR corporate performance standards and specifications; as well as furniture standards for the CSIR;
  • Ensure adherence to corporate furniture, construction and space utilization standards on all projects;
  • Provide technical/architectural services for minor renovations and interior fit-out projects;
  • Participate in projects meetings to review office construction remodels and workstation reconfigurations;
  • Keep all schematics, plans, diagrams, details, etc. up to date in AutoCad format to maintain accurate, comprehensive resource of electronic facilities information and space allocation information;
  • Update and maintain drawings on the CAD and CAFM system, space data and occupancy data based on move information, upgrades and project information;
  • Ensure the integrity of the property database;
  • Conduct periodic buildings and infrastructure audits to verify drawing accuracy and to ensure drawings are updated to reflect changes and occupancy as well as verify that employee locations, furniture layout and room configurations are correctly noted on floor plans;
  • Assist and guide the implementation of the new CAFM system particularly the space management and real estate modules;

 Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A Bachelors degree or national diploma in architecture with at least three years’ experience in the field of architecture or interior architecture; OR
  • A Drafting Certificate with ten years’ relevant experience;
  • Experience in Revit will be an advantage;
  • Experience in the use of a CAFM system will be an added advantage;
  • Extensive AutoCAD knowledge and experience;
  • Proficiency in Revit, Photoshop, PowerPoint and Visio;
  • Knowledge of building regulations and related legislation including Occupational Health and Safety Act;
  • Knowledge of CAFM Space Management/Property management application;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to pay attention to detail;
  • Problem solving skills;
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Ability to meet demanding deadlines;
  • High degree of customer focus and care;
