Applications are invited from suitably qualified local candidates for the following position tenable in the Ministry of Education and Training:
JOB TITLE: Inspector
Grade: H
Number of Positions: Six (6)
Responsible To: District Education Manager
JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Regional Inspector, the incumbent is responsible for undertaking inspection of schools to ensure compliance with and adherence to education policies and laws. The role includes contributing to curriculum development, facilitating capacity building for teachers, and supporting school management.
The incumbent reports administratively to the District Education Manager and technically to the Regional Inspector.
MAIN DUTIES
1. Inspection of Education Establishments and Performance
1.1 Collects and disseminates information on education policies, laws, codes of good practice, performance standards, management, administration, and teaching
1.2 Inspects schools in areas such as:
- Management and administration
- Teaching and learning
- Financial management
- Facilities and equipment
- Staff and learner well-being
1.3 Sets performance standards
1.4 Assesses teaching effectiveness and develops performance improvement plans where needed
1.5 Provides professional advice on school establishment and expansion
1.6 Prepares quarterly and annual inspection reports
1.7 Advises the Ministry on:
- Teacher supply forecasting
- School facilities
- Teaching and learning materials
1.8 Analyzes examination performance and prepares improvement recommendations
2. Curriculum and Learning Materials Development
2.1 Contributes to curriculum development in assigned subject areas and develops performance indicators
2.2 Identifies needs for teaching and learning materials and coordinates their development and dissemination
2.3 Collaborates with relevant authorities on assessment procedures
3. Capacity Building
3.1 Identifies staff development needs and arranges appropriate interventions
3.2 Collaborates with teacher training institutions on pre-service and in-service courses and monitors their effectiveness
3.3 Contributes to budget preparation for the inspectorate and manages specific allocations
3.4 Performs other duties as assigned by relevant authorities
JOB SPECIFICATION
- Master’s Degree in Education plus three (3) years’ experience in a leadership or management role at school level
OR - Bachelor’s Degree in Education plus five (5) years’ experience in a leadership or management role at school level
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Skills in instructional supervision and teaching
- Strong leadership, communication, coordination, and cooperation skills
- Report writing skills
- Working knowledge of:
- Lesotho Education Act 2010 (as amended)
- Teaching Service Regulations 2002
- School Supervision and Management Regulations of 1988
- Willingness to work in any district or area of Lesotho
- Proven record of hard work in an educational setting
- Proven record of producing good results in a leadership position
