VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Applications are invited from suitably qualified local candidates for the following position tenable in the Ministry of Education and Training:
- Position Title: Inspector
- Grade: H
- Number of Positions: Six (6)
- Responsible To: District Education Manager (administratively) and Regional Inspector (technically)
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Regional Inspector, the incumbent is responsible for inspecting schools to ensure compliance with education policies and laws, contributing to curriculum development, and facilitating teacher capacity building. The Inspector also supports school management and reports to both the District Education Manager and Regional Inspector.
Main Duties
1. Inspection of Education Establishments and Performance
- Collects and disseminates information on education policies, laws, codes of good practice, performance standards, and teaching practices
- Inspects schools for management, administration, teaching and learning, financial management, facilities, equipment, and staff/learner well-being
- Sets performance standards
- Assesses teaching effectiveness and develops performance improvement plans
- Provides professional advice on school establishment and expansion
- Prepares quarterly and annual inspection reports
- Advises on teacher supply forecasting, school facilities, and learning materials
- Analyzes examination performance and recommends improvements
2. Curriculum and Teaching Materials Development
- Contributes to curriculum development and education policy in assigned subject areas
- Identifies needs for teaching and learning materials and coordinates their development and dissemination
- Collaborates with authorities on assessment procedures
3. Capacity Building
- Identifies staff development needs and coordinates appropriate training
- Works with teacher training institutions on pre-service and in-service courses
- Monitors effectiveness of training programs
- Contributes to budget preparation and manages allocated funds
- Performs other duties as assigned by relevant authorities
Job Specification
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Education with three (3) years’ experience in a leadership or management role at school level
OR - Bachelor’s Degree in Education with five (5) years’ experience in a leadership or management role at school level
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Skills in instructional supervision and teaching
- Strong leadership, communication, coordination, and cooperation skills
- Report writing skills
- Working knowledge of:
- Lesotho Education Act 2010 (as amended)
- Teaching Service Regulations 2002
- School Supervision and Management Regulations of 1988
- Willingness to work in any district of Lesotho
- Proven record of hard work in an educational setting
- Proven record of producing good results in a leadership position
