JOB TITLE: Inspector Biology
GRADE: H

RESPONSIBLE TO: Regional Inspector
JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Regional Inspector, the incumbent is responsible for undertaking inspection of schools in order to ensure compliance with curriculum and adherence to Education policies and laws; contribution to development of curriculum and facilitating capacity building for teachers. The incumbent will support school’s management. He/She will be answerable to the District Education Manager, administratively, and the Regional Inspector, technically, to undertake the following duties:
MAIN DUTIES
- Inspection of Education Establishment and Performance
1.1 Collects and arranges for dissemination of information on education policies and laws; the code of good practice; performance standards, management, administration, teaching etc. in an education establishment
1.2 Inspects education establishments in respect of their management and administration; teaching and learning; financial management; management of facilities and equipment; and management of other matters related to staff and learner well-being
1.3 Sets performance standards
1.4 Assesses the effectiveness of teaching and learning, where discrepancies are identified, develops performance improvement plans and follows up on implementation
1.5 Provides professional advice on the establishment, expansion etc. of all classifications of schools
1.6 Prepares quarterly and annual reports on schools’ inspections and other activities
1.7 Advises the Ministry on matters relating to: teacher supply forecasting in the assigned subject area; school facilities; and teaching and learning materials
1.8 Analyses performance in examinations, prepares report with recommendations for improvement - Development of Curriculum and Teaching and Learning Materials
2.1 Contributes to the on-going development of curricula in the assigned subject area and other policies of education service and develops qualitative and quantitative indicators of performance
2.2 Identifies aspects of curriculum in which there is a need for teaching and learning materials and other resources to be developed and arranges for appropriate action to be taken to effect development, production, introduction and dissemination
2.3 Collaborates with relevant authorities in the development and administration of assessment procedures - Capacity Building
3.1 Identifies staff development needs in respect of effective delivery of curriculum and arranges for appropriate action
3.2 Collaborates with appropriate teacher training institutions in the design and delivery of pre-service and in-service courses and monitors the effectiveness of such courses
3.3 Contributes to the preparation of budget estimates for the inspectorate and manages specific budget allocations
3.4 Carries out such duties as may from time to time be required by the relevant authority
JOB SPECIFICATION
Master’s degree in education with specialty in Biology, plus three (3) years’ experience in a leadership role at school level
OR
Bachelor’s degree in education with specialty in Biology, plus five (5) years’ experience in a leadership role at school level
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Skills in instructional supervision and teaching
- Good qualities of leadership, communication, coordination, and cooperation
- Report writing skills
- A working knowledge of the Lesotho Education Act 2010 (as amended), Teaching Service Regulations 2002 and School Supervision and Management Regulations of 1988
- Willingness to work in any district and area of Lesotho
- A proven record of being hard working in an educational setting (school)
- A proven record of producing good results in the position of leadership
