The Lesotho Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) is a signatory to landmark agreements with Women and Law in Southern African Research and Education Trust Lesotho (WLSA, Independent Democratic Union of Lesotho (IDUL), United Textile Employees (UNITE) The National Clothing Textile and Allied Workers Union (NACTWU), Nien Hsing, Levis Strauss & Co., The Children’s Place and Kontoor Brands to establish a program to eradicate gender-based violence and harassment in the workplace, which includes education and awareness training, and establishes and independent organization to monitor and receive complaints from workers Nien Hsing  As a part of this program, FIDA will house an information line that workers may call to report violations of the code of conduct which prohibits gender-based violence and harassment. FIDA is hiring Information Line Counsellors to staff this information line.

FIDA is a lead organisation providing advice and information on women and children’s rights where women and men are equal before the law. In this context FIDA is looking for suitably qualified candidates for the position of Counsellor(s) that will provide counselling services to women working in the textile factories where rampant gender-based violence and harassment was recently reported by WRC.Well trained and qualified candidates with relevant skills and good communication skills and knowledgeable in Social Sciences, Counselling or related discipline with relevant experience needed for this position.

Duties and Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Head Counsellor

  1. Conduct thorough, confidential calls with workers employed at the Nien Hsing Factories in Lesotho who call to learn more about their rights under the new the Code of Conduct to end gender-based violence and harassment at the Nien Hsing Factories.
  2. Evaluate the needs of callers to determine next steps, which may include counselling workers on their rights under the Code of Conduct and how to submit a complaint of GBVH to Workers’ Rights Watch; refer him or her to other services; and create an intervention plan, if needed.
  3. Screen and identify mental health challenges and refer call to additional services, if needed.
  4. Provide preventative, developmental counselling services and interventions and when necessary.
  5. Ensure call records are entered into the database.
  6. Report regularly to the Manager and document success stories.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:

  1. Degree in Health Science, Psychology, Counselling, or another related field;
  2. 2 to 3 years successful experience in conducting confidential intakes on an information line or in a similar context;
  3. Strong interpersonal skills, including fluency in both written and spoken English and Sesotho;
  4. Commitment to ending gender-based violence and harassment in the workplace;
  5. Ability to work flexible hours; and
  6. Have attained a high level of computer proficiency, including using Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as a database system.

Desirable

  1. Ability to perform according to FIDA Prime competencies.
  2. Knowledge of the Lesotho health and social services sector.
