Position Title: Infectious Diseases Specialist

Reports to: Chief Medical Officer, Partners In Health-Lesotho

 Position Overview

Partners In Health Lesotho (PIHL) seeks an experienced infectious diseases physician to support the PIHL-supported health facilities. PIHL has been consciously working to provide high quality and dignified health services in Lesotho. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

·       Ensure quality of treatment and care to Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) patients at hospital and community level based on national and international treatment guidelines.

·       Provide day-to-day high quality patients’ care for inpatients and out patients.

·       Conduct daily ward round to review patients’ management and progress.

·       Serve as a clinical consultant to PIH Lesotho supported health facilities including providing on-call night services to patients.

·       Support and participate in all trainings organized by PIH-Lesotho for the health care workers within the country and from other countries.

·       Lead the development and implementation of clinical trainings for PIHL.

·       Lead the formalization of PIHL training curriculum.

·       Lead the development of national protocols and guidelines on patient management for infectious diseases.

·       Assist in developing a policy and strategy of infectious diseases.

·       Participation in the National HIV/TB technical working groups. 

Administrative & leadership

·       Work with leadership from PIHL on training health care workers including doctors and nurses across PIHL supported health facilities.

·       Provide technical support to the Ministry of Health (MoH) in the clinical care technical working group.

·       Serve as a liaison between PIHL and Lesotho MoH on matters related to infectious diseases technical working groups under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer and Executive Director.

·       Provide additional accompaniment to MoH in support of national clinical care improvement initiatives as need arises.

·       Demonstrate leadership skills in problem solving, decision-making, priority setting, and effective delegation and communication

Qualifications and minimum requirements

·       Medicine degree from a fully accredited institution.

·       Postgraduate training in infectious diseases specialty.

·       Demonstrated expertise in management of infectious diseases. 

·       Experience in health systems strengthening in rural and/or resource-limited settings.

·       Demonstrated ability in teaching and mentorship, including experience in organizing and leading clinical trainings.

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

·       Ability to generate documents (e.g. reports, grants, training materials) within given deadlines.

·       Ability to review scientific literature and best practices to inform drafting and revising context appropriate clinical guidance.

·       Demonstrated ability to work effectively across diverse cultures with respect and humility.

·       Personal and professional commitment to social justice.
